CHS News Letter
August 31, 2023
Hello Hawk Families!
Our fall sports and activities are well underway! I encourage you to attend any of these functions and activities to support our CHS students.
Please understand that all Activities and Athletic participants at Centennial High School are held to the same academic requirements for participation.
We will be hosting grade level Parent meetings this month. Please stay tuned for those dates and times.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are August 31st and September 1st. We are taking a proactive approach this year by reaching out to families of students that are not doing well academically. We are setting up Zoom Meetings to make it much easier for parents to attend and get information from their child's teachers. If you were not contacted by your child's Advisory Teacher, this would indicate your child is doing well in their core classes. If you would still like to schedule a Parent/Teacher conference, please reach out to your child's Counselor. Their contact information is at the bottom of this newsletter.
PSAT/NMSQT will be October 18 2023. This test is for all sophomores’ Class of 2026. Any Juniors wanting to take the assessment with hopes of becoming a Nation Merit Scholar need to see Mrs. Martinez in Building A to get signed up. Also happening on October 18, all Juniors will be taking the ASVAB test. Please encourage your students to have a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast.
Homecoming dance is Sept. 16th. Please be aware that there will not be any tickets sold at the door. The doors will close at 9:15pm. Students must show an ID at the door. The dress code will be enforced. The dress code is Semiformal. Blue-jeans are being allowed but no ripped jeans. T-Shirts are not permitted. Any guests from other schools must have a guest pass signed by the visiting student's school Principal prior to the dance. Guests must have an ID. Guests without a signed guest pass will not be allowed into the dance. Homecoming activities and spirit days are advertised on Canvas and around campus.
Students interested in applying for the State Biliteracy Bilingual Seal, the deadline for Seniors is November 1, 2023. Please see the application attached to this newsletter. If you have any questions, please contact Erika Martinez at the following email: emartinez4@lcps.net
Last month, we held student grade level meetings in our Theatre. In those conversations, we mapped out 3 simple rules for us all to follow while on campus at Centennial. They are:
- Be Nice.
- Be where you are suppose to be, doing what you are suppose to be doing, when you are suppose to be doing it.
- If I can't do it, you can't do it.
Please have conversations with your child and help them to remember that their primary purse for coming to Centennial H.S. is to earn a High School Diploma. Behaviors that hinder or restrict this primary purpose are not beneficial and need to be addressed.

Parking Permits
Beginning Tuesday, September 5th, all students are required to have a parking permit to park on campus. Please see campus security to obtain a parking permit. Students must have a driver’s license, insurance, and registration. A driver’s permit is not eligible to receive a parking pass.
Off Campus Passes
Off-campus passes will also be checked beginning on Tuesday, September 5th. Please have your student drop their student ID off with the secretary in B Building. If the student is eligible for an off campus pass, the Secretary will give your student a sticker that is placed on the back of their student ID card. Students must have a 3.0 GPA, good attendance, and a signed parent permission slip to receive privileges. Freshmen are not allowed off campus. Grades are checked quarterly. If a student did not meet the GPA requirement, they can earn the privilege the next 9 weeks. Please understand in supporting the Centennial H.S. Mission Statement in preparing our students for workplace readiness, tardies to classes do calculate into the attendance of the student for off campus lunch privileges. Excessive tardies to classes will prevent a student from earning the off campus privilege.
