Welcome to Week 12! We survived Halloween and the Friday after. Thanks for all that you do and continue to use your 7 Habits to be purposeful and planner for whatever may come your way. Thanks for all that you do.

Vision Statement;

Holmquist Elementary will prepare students to be independent thinkers and innovators who will positively contribute to society. We will become an A school and we will grow all students at least one year academically and socially in a nurturing environment.

Goals for 2019-2020

Work together as a team to improve the culture and climate of our school.
Strengthen first line instruction in order to meet the individual needs of our students through planning, professional development, PLC and technology.
Use data to provide students with targeted small group instruction in reading, writing and math.
Learning is happening every day in every class!

Hummingbird Staff of the Week

Linda Moreno is green over red. She was born in the lower Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, TX. She is one of 12 siblings born to migrant worker parents. Consequently, she was a migrant worker until her junior her in high school. Also, she is from a sink or swim era where there was a lot of discrimination. Being the second oldest, she was always a teacher without pay. However, she found out that she really enjoyed helping her siblings and she felt a sense of accomplishment when they excelled in school. (Despite the stigma that existed at the time for Hispanic migrant workers.) So, teaching was always in her heart. Her mother's strong character, true grit, and perseverance inspired her to pursue her own education. She loves helping kids at her school. They motivate her to do her best when they achieve any type of success. To her, education is the key to break any type of cycle in order to achieve the potential or zone of proximal development that exists in every individual. She is inspired by "The Prayer of St. Francis". "Make me a channel of your Peace" - a message of peace and self-surrender. Quote by Maya Angelou - "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Do not wear jeans if you don't have on the correct shirt. No exceptions

Monday – College Shirt or Future U shirt ONLY and Jeans, Texans or Saints Jersey if they WIN. They must win!

Tuesday – Regular Dress or On time club - see list

Wednesday – Regular Dress or khakis with polo shirt

Thursday – Regular Dress

Friday – Spirit Shirt, Teacher Shirt, Future U shirt Only and Jeans

· No Colored Jeans Tues – Thursday – No colored jeans; and no ripped, torn, faded or distressed jeans on any day; no leggings, no flip flops, spaghetti straps or backless shirts.
