BIDDEFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
February 9, 2022
Good Afternoon Parents & Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you safe, happy, and healthy.
As you know, our First semester has now come to a close. JumpRope Reports were sent home with ALL students at the end of last week. Please contact the school if you have not received this report from your child. We have also completed our Winter NWEA test, have started a new round of Math and Reading classes, and have transitioned all of our students into their new Unified Arts classes.
The past few weeks have been busy as we have finished the first session of our winter sports season. The second session has now begun with students beginning their wrestling and indoor track seasons. All of our sign-ups and registrations go through familyid.com.
Please communicate with Karl Labreux (klabreux@biddefordschools.me) with any questions.
We encourage ALL families to stay connected to their Tiger Time teachers and to let us know if there is anything that we can do to support you here at BMS.
Be safe and healthy,
Mr. Scott Descoteaux
Principal - Biddeford Middle School
STEM SCIENCE FAIR
Our STEM 7th graders participated in the traditional Science Fair. They researched specific scientific principles and formulated their "testable question". They created an experiment to test their hypothesis while being very mindful of the variables inherent in their design. After creating a presentation board, they were fortunate to share their findings with 5th, 6th, and 7th graders here at BMS.
Our STEM 8th graders participated in the Henry Ford Innovation Center's "Invention Convention". They engaged in a deep dive into patents, inventing, and the design process. They created an invention that adds to an existing product or an entirely new design. Each one did extensive work in the research and design processes. They also were able to share their Inventions with the students here at BMS.

ReadtoME
During February, our schools promote literacy through the ReadtoME Challenge so be sure to read to/with a child for at least 15 minutes. Snap a photo or short video (15-30 seconds) and post with your challenge to others to read aloud for 15 minutes to a child they know. Use hashtags #ReadtoME or #ReadaloudME and tag others.
DRIVE-THRU COVID TESTING
York County Emergency Management, Biddeford Emergency Management, and the Maine CDC have teamed up to create a drive-thru COVID testing location at Five Points Shopping Center (420 Alfred Street) in Biddeford. The testing location is open Monday – Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM. This testing site will provide saliva-based PCR COVID testing. To book an appointment, visit https://shieldt3portal.pointnclick.com and sign up for an account (reference the agency code “BiddefordComm”). Please see the below graphics for full instructions.
