Dear GLOBE community,
Thank you for your warm greetings — and for your patience — in our first week back after the holiday break. As we kick off 2023, I have a few operational and staffing updates to share:
The heating has been restored to Lower Campus, except for in two lower-level classrooms where we are in the process of installing two standalone units. Since the HVAC problems have been recurring there, we will eventually seal off the lower level heating and AC and install standalone heating/AC units in each classroom.
At Upper Campus, the heat has been restored, except on the lower level. We have ordered the necessary part to repair the lower-level system, though unfortunately it may take some time to arrive.
Our director of operations, Cortney Flowers, tendered her resignation over winter break. I am pleased to share that Jen Parker will be serving as interim director of operations. Jen has been part of the GLOBE community since our doors opened — as a parent of one of our very first kindergarteners in 2013 and as a staff member for the past 8.5 years. In that time, she has served capably in nearly every role that reports up to the director of operations, so we feel confident in her ability to steward our operations and grateful for her enthusiasm about doing so. (We expect to fill the role on a permanent basis this spring.)
Also over winter break, Officer Mark Bollinger retired after 31 years with the police force and 8.5 years at GLOBE. Lucky for us, Officer Mark has agreed to stay on with us for two additional months, supporting Jen in her operations role on the facilities side. He will not, however, be out directing traffic — we’re working on a permanent solution there — so I’m asking that everyone be extra-conscientious about following the carpool rules and regulations and embodying the spirit of CREST. When you see Officer Mark in the neighborhood, be sure to thank him for his career of generous service to this community. Students will be invited to bring cards for Officer Mark and to thank him in person during his final two days at GLOBE, February 27 and 28. We’ll send more details next month.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel welcome to reach out anytime. I’m looking forward to a great semester together.
In community,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
Weekly COVID surveillance testing has now ended
Weekly on-site COVID testing has now come to a close. Remember to keep your students home if they are showing symptoms of COVID, RSV or flu. If your child tests positive for any of these, please inform your campus nurse immediately. Our campus nurses, Cherrie Robinson at UC, and Lindsay Reese at LC, will maintain the ability to test students who are showing symptoms.
COVID-19 testing kits
Free testing kits can currently be ordered online from the USPS. Click here to place your order.
GLOBE have limited testing kits available. To request a testing kit, please email your campus nurse. Cherrie Robinson at UC, or Lindsay Reese at LC.
Extended Care Program / Enrichment / Aftercare
Don't forget to check out our 2023 Enrichment Program listings for both campuses on the school's website, here. With the exception of Expressions In Motion (dance), all other Enrichments will begin the week of January 23 and many classes still have openings!
Summer Camp 2023
GLOBE is excited to announce that we are having Summer Camp this year. Camp will take place during the weeks of June 12, June 19 and June 26.
Registration will open in mid-February. Updated information will be included in future newsletters, so look out for details coming soon.
Admissions
Action required: Declare intent to enroll
In the last few days, GLOBE sent out an email requesting that current GLOBE families complete the "Intent to Enroll" form. If you have not yet completed the form, click here to view, complete and submit. If you have any questions or concerns, or need help filling out the form, be sure to contact the Director of Admissions, Saphiatou N'Jie. You will receive a Google confirmation after submitting the document. If further information or clarification is needed, you will be contacted.
Please be advised, we must receive your response by 12pm, Friday, February 3, 2023. Also, if you have an 8th grade student who is graduating, but plan to enter his/her/their sibling in the lottery, you must also complete this form. 8th grade students with no siblings entering into our lottery should not complete this form.
School Meals and MyPaymentsPlus Account Update
Earlier this year, email communication was sent advising parents that meal charges had not been properly processed using our automated system. This error resulted in charges not being deducted from your student’s MyPaymentsPlus meal account in real time.
Since that communication, GLOBE’s Nutrition Department has been reconciling and updating student meal charges daily. We are working diligently to ensure prior meals are captured and accounted for. GLOBE recognizes that the meal data entries may cause concerns when reviewing and funding your student’s account. Please, do not fret. Address any questions, concerns, or discrepancies you may have to: nutrition@theglobeacademy.net. The GLOBE Academy is here to work with you.
Furthermore, we are happy to inform parents that the automated system for processing meals is fully functional and students are using their unique PIN (comprised of their Student ID number) to account for breakfast and lunch charges daily.
Once again, we appreciate you for your continued patience during this reconciliation process.

Connections at Lower Campus
Please make sure students come prepared for cold weather
Temperatures outside are consistently cold this time of year. In PE at Lower Campus, the majority of our classes are held outside. It is imperative that students are dressed in layers and are prepared for the weather during this time of year. Please check the weather on your student's scheduled class time. The school weather policy for PE and recess at Lower Campus can be viewed by clicking here.
GLOBE is looking for a new Host Family Liaison for the year 2023-2024
Language Support Assistants from China, France, and Spain, are so important to the culture and instruction at our school. We are so thankful to Mrs. Robyn Brandman for her service as Host Family Liaison from 2018-2023!
The Host Family Liaison helps with matching families with candidates, as well as planning for new interns from China, France, and Spain, and helping with cultural questions that may arise.
Please reach out to Mrs. Sandra Daniel, Director of Language Program, if you are interested.

Fundraising Planning Meeting
Join us for our spring fundraising event brainstorming and planning meeting on Thursday, January 12 at 7:00pm via Zoom. Meeting ID: 879 2715 3745. Password: GLOBE. Last year’s Auction online and at Wild Heaven Brewing raised $80,000+ for GLOBE events, facilities, and faculty support.
Target Language Book Fair for spring 2023
We would like to be able to have a mini book fair with French, Mandarin, and Spanish books in the spring. To make this happen, we need someone who will lead this effort. If you are interested in taking this on, please email PTCC by January 23.
Box Tops for Education
Please help our school earn money by using the Box Tops app. Just download the app, synch the giving to GLOBE, and snap pictures of your receipts in the app! That’s all you have to do! The app will determine if any products you bought generate money for GLOBE. If you download the app and scan a receipt between now and 1/15 and use referral code KM8B9BBP, they will donate an extra $8 to the school!
