Nike Scout News November 2022
Check out what's happening at Nike
Happy Fall!
I am sending out monthly newsletters to communicate important information and upcoming events. We will also be sending out weekly emails with Thursday folder information.
Some parents have asked how they can be involved in their child's education. The most important way to stay involved in your child's education is to check your email, Dojo from teachers, read the Thursday folder every Thursday evening, and help your child nightly with their homework.
Upcoming Events:
- We hope you can join us tonight at McDonalds for McTeacher Night from 5pm to 8pm.
- PTO Mouse Races are this coming Saturday. There are only 4 tables available now!
- Thursday, Nov. 10th we will have Pancakes with Patriots then a Veterans Day Assembly. If you would like to attend, please complete the form below. We are also asking for any Nike family members who have pictures of their military members to bring them to the office so they can be in our slideshow during the assembly.
- No School Nov. 11th
- We have Parent teacher conferences Nov. 14-18th. Communication should have been sent home from your classroom teacher regarding signing up for a conference time.
- No school Nov. 21-25th for Fall break!
You should be receiving Pulse emails on the 1st and 15th of each month regarding your child's attendance and academics. You should have received one today. If you did NOT receive a Pulse email with the subject "Student Update", please let the office know.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions throughout the year. You can find my contact information at the bottom of the newsletter.

8 PILLARS OF SUCCESS
From Ms. Raeker
This month I will be speaking to students about the importance of community. We will explore the different ways we can help our community, both at school and in general. The week of October 31st-November 4th, our school will hold a food drive. The food collected will be used to provide Turkey Dinner Baskets to some of our Nike families. Each day, we will collect different food items and the class that collects the most items will be rewarded. See the flyer below for details. If your student needs a hat, coat, or gloves, please tell them to see me. I have some in various sizes I can share with those in need. Happy November!
Feel free to reach out by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636 271 1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
Nike Elementary Food Drive
Mark your calendars! We will be having the Nike Food Drive October 31st- November 4th!
Veterans Day
From Nurse Jamie
Leaves are falling and so are temperatures! Please make sure your kiddos are coming to school prepared for the weather. Layers are always an excellent option! The school has only a very limited number of jackets/hoodies to loan out for use during recess.
The nurse's office is looking for some donations to help our kiddos throughout the year. If you are able to donate, items can be dropped off at the office or sent in your child's backpack in a bag labeled for the school nurse. The following items are needed:
Baby wipes
New/Unopened packages of boys & girls underwear in sizes 4/5 & 5/6
New girls basic leggings in sizes 5/6 & 7/8
Gender neutral basic T-Shirts in sizes 5/6 & 7/8
Any donations are greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Nurse Jamie
MUSIC
First and second grades are working on a holiday revue to be performed at Riverbend on 12/15
at 7 pm. If the students would like to practice on their own the songs are posted on their Google Classroom pages. Third and fourth grade will have a concert on 3/16 and kindergarten will have graduation. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through email at rfenelon@mvr3.k12.mo.us or through the ClassDojo Messenger.
Art
Communication is key! I can be reached at cpatterson@mvr3.k12.mo.us or by calling the Nike office. See below the amazing things going on in Art class.
Library
Thank you to all families and kiddos who supported our Fall Book fair! We had a great turn out for our Parent breakfast. Book fair helps the library purchase even more new books and other fun stuff.
PE
The cold weather is upon us. With this happening our activities for PE will start to focus more on sports/games that are meant to be inside. We will be moving into Basketball followed by Hockey shortly after.
Please make sure your child is wearing proper shoes for PE on their PE days. This is for their own comfortability.
Title 1 Reading
In Mrs. Hollstein's class we practice reading skills daily focusing on the 5 components of reading. We are focusing on phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear and distinguish sounds. This includes: recognizing sounds alone and in words, adding sounds to words, taking apart words and breaking them into different sounds, and moving sounds. Attached you will find some activities you can practice at home.
Also, it is so important to read at home for 20 minutes daily. At the end of each month, we will have a celebration for students who receive Title 1 services and are completing their daily reading.
