Principal's Message
Hello Families,
After twice rescheduling, our Winter Band Performance took place last night. Mr. Truong and our Band students provided a robust schedule of music for our enjoyment. Check out the program with the QR code for the roster of students that performed, as well as information about some of the great things happening for our Band Program. The Band Program is continuing to grow with our beginning band at 85 students strong. There are many students coming before school for Jazz Band and Mr. Truong spends extra time after school to provide individual support. I am incredibly appreciative of Mr. Truong and his passion for developing our young musicians.
If you have some time to spare on Saturday, February 10th, our OG Supporters have a Gardening Team coming from 10:00-1:00 to begin a clean-up of our garden. Please join if you can.
In Partnership,

Compacted Math Update
PPS is setting new criteria for placement in Compacted Math (see image below). If your student is in 6th Grade Math, then they should have received an email via Ms. Jensen outlining our process here at Ockley Green. In order to determine placement into CY1 for 7th grade, the team will use student MAP test data, OSAS scores, an in-class Compacted Math Assessment, family feedback, and a teacher recommendation to determine readiness for Compacted Math. We hope to use this data to make transparent and equitable decisions for our students. We strive to make data-informed decisions that help us to create validating learning experiences for the kids in every class and to foster a love of learning math in all of our students.
If you have a student in 6th Grade Math, then please remember to complete the FAMILY survey by Friday, February 16th
If you have any questions, please email Elise Hughes and Mary Clare Metscher, or plan on attending one of our Compacted Math Q&A Sessions on Tuesday, February 13 at 8:00am or 4:00pm via Google Meets.
Proposed District 2024-25 School Calendar
At the January 9th school board meeting, we presented the proposed draft 2024-2025 school year calendar. Our new contract with the Portland Association of Teachers led to several shifts between this year's calendar and next year's calendar. We wanted to make you aware of that and share the proposed calendar. If you have questions or comments regarding our proposed calendar, we invite you to share them with us by visiting https://www.pps.net/contact
Bike Lock Up Reminder
We are fortunate to have a fenced in and covered area for our students & staff that ride their bikes to the building. Bikes should always be locked up with a bike lock, even if they are in the fenced in area. We recently had the fencing cut away, which created access. Fortunately, it was caught before any bikes were stolen and it was fixed quickly by Facilities.
