February 2023
3rd-5th Grade
Reading
3rd graders are currently reading Charlotte's Web and participating in weekly discussions. 4th and 5th graders completed the novels A Long Walk to Water and Number the Stars and are currently writing scripts for their parade floats. Parade floats are due next Friday, February 10th. Information about how to build the floats was sent home earlier this week.
Math
3rd graders have been working on "Einstein level" multiplication word problems (ask them about the 6 dogs with 6 puppies, with 6 fleas problem). It certainly gave all of us a run for our money last week!
4th graders completed their "Resort Report" and have moved into using all operations to solve challenging word problems to prepare them for benchmark tests next week.
5th graders have been focusing on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.
IG
4th and 5th graders were able to work with the spheros and learned to begin coding them for our parade float projects. We have also started working with various ciphers to decode secret messages.
K-2 Nurturing Program
February 6th will begin AIG Nurturing lessons for Kindergarteners. I will be visiting each class for a week at a time to work with our youngest students focusing on creativity, deductive reasoning, and convergent thinking skills. Kindergarten nurturing will last through March 31st.
Science Olympiad
The Science Olympiad Competition is on March 4th at Ashley High School. Students participating must be there at 8 am to get checked in and to prepare for their events. If you have any questions at all about competition day, please do not hesitate to reach out!
