USD116 BOE Update: March 7, 2023
from Superintendent Dr. Ivory-Tatum
Administrative Reports
8.1 Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center (UIAC) Agreement
Highlights of updates/changes to the agreement:
- 4-Year Contract
- UIAC closed from Memorial Day to Labor Day | This helps with staffing and costs. (The Urbana swim team will still be able to begin practice at the beginning of August).
- Shared Maintenance Efforts: Maintenance issues will be triaged by staff of both districts prior to contracting with outside vendors. This may reduce service costs.
- Parking: During USD events (i.e. football games, etc.), parking will be first come, first serve. Cars will not be towed from blue-spaces during these times.
9.1 PRESS Plus 110
- Student truancy provisions now excuse middle and high school students for one school day per school year to attend a civic event, which is an event sponsored by a non-profit organization or governmental entity that is open to the public.
- Illinois joined a number of other states in adopting the Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair Act, or CROWN Act. The CROWN Act amends provisions of the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA) that prohibit race discrimination in employment and in schools as places of public accommodation.
- Districts now have to include instruction about safety in the home, including safe gun storage, as part of their safety education programs.
