Tiger Tales
Family Edition
September 2022
Thank you for a great start to a new year. It has been nice to have our little leaders back at WES. Each grade level has tons of exciting things occurring daily. Be sure that you are connected to all of your teacher's communication groups. We want to make sure that you know what is happening at WES. Our students are demonstrating a positive attitude towards learning. There is rich dialogue, communication, and deep thinking in our classrooms daily.
We completed our beginning-of-the-year assessments last week. We will use the results of these assessments to provide instructional support to our students as needed. Be sure to review graded papers and documents that are sent home. This will keep you up to date on your child's progress. Check out the link below to our math and reading newsletter from Mrs. Larkin & Mrs. Donald. They have provided great resources to help at home.
Look for a letter explaining PBIS, our new behavior program. We will implement this program using Class DOJO. The purpose is to encourage positive student behavior throughout the school. Implementing PBIS will require a strong home and school connection. We will host a kick-off rally in school to promote student interest. Students will get to participate in monthly celebrations as part of our PBIS incentives. Our three schoolwide expectations are : Respect Yourself, Respect Others, and Respect Our School.
We appreciate your patience at drop off and pick up times. Thanks to your help, we have been able to improve both routines. Our top priority is to keep our little leaders safe as they come and leave our campus.
Parent/teacher conferences must be scheduled with your child's teacher. If you have questions or concerns about your student's progress or anything at WES, please reach out to us. Home-school connections are key to academic success. You are always welcome at WES, the place where "little people make a big difference".

The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept and feelings of competence and confidence as learners. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family.
Elementary school counselors are educators uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, self- management and social skills, who understand and promote success for today’s diverse students. They implement a school counseling program to support students through this important developmental period. The program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of children’s lives. The program teaches knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to acquire in academic, career and social/emotional development, which serve as the foundation for future success.
During the month of September, we will be discussing who I am and what my job is as a school counselor. The students will also have the opportunity to ask questions as we talk about positive school behaviors.
We are going to have a great time in counseling classes this year!!
