CHS & Class ACT Board Report

Congratulations to our high school students for their accomplishments at NTC this past 2020-2021 school year! Keep in mind they had to overcome a challenging year as they persevered through a pandemic. The amazing partnership between NTC and CHS saved our students and their families $133,746.30 in tuition during the 2020-2021 academic year. Our students attempted 859 college credits. Chequamegon High School offers more credits than any other Marawood Conference school.

Sara Brown from the Mathematics Institute of Wisconsin met with our high school and middle school math teachers for two days in early August. She led them through the process of using our new math curriculum, Illustrative Math. The workshop was a collaborative effort that allowed our teachers to connect with each other and reflect on their own practices. We look forward to continuing our work with the Math Institute as we implement this new curriculum during the school year.

The high school will be sending 11 students to the NTC Welding Academy Orientation held at the NTC campus in Phillips on August 19. Our high school has traditionally sent a good number of students to this program with a high rate of success.

The Custom Rod Builders Guild is a group of rod builders from around the country that are dedicated to preserving and promoting the "craft of rod building". They used the high school and the classrooms to hold workshops for their guests. Members from St. Croix were in attendance as they work closely with this group. The Guild buys blank rods from St. Croix and puts their own custom touch on them. The workshop this year brought in over 80 members. In years past they have had 150 or more attend. They were very appreciative of being able to use our building.

The football, cross country, and volleyball programs are all practicing and preparing for competition real soon. Participation numbers are solid in all 3 programs. We are looking forward to watching our student-athletes compete this year! Below are the dates of the first home competition for each program.

Volleyball - Thursday, August 26, versus Butternut at 5:45 p.m.

Football - Friday, September 3, versus Shell Lake at 7:00 p.m.

Cross Country - Host the Chequamegon Invite on Saturday, September 11, at 10:30 a.m.

• July 26 - E-Hall pass training with Bill Weiler and Kacey Hanson.
• July 29 - Darlene Carl and I attended the Managing to Lead AWSA training in Stevens Point. The focus was to provide practical strategies for an administrator and administrator assistant to work more efficiently together. I found the training to be very helpful.
• July 31 - Our high school hosted the Flambeau Rama car show.
• August 5 - The district had 15 coaches attend CPR training in the high school library.
• August 9 - I met with all the Marawood Conference principals at the Abbotsford High School.
• August 9 & 10 - I attended the fall sports parent/coach meetings with Daren Patterson.
• August 17 - I attended the Class ACT annual meeting at Tracy Lake.
