Did you know there are approximately 3,000,000 unintentional injuries to children 14 and under as a result of home incidents each year? November is National Child Safety and Protection Month. Come learn from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) experts on how to keep our children safe and protected from fires, burns, drownings, poisonings, choking, suffocation, strangulation, falls, and more. Our Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD) will also cover topics such as outdoor safety, car child passage safety, pedestrian safety, teen driving and more. Come and bring your K – 12th grade scholar and learn together as a family through interactive activities and simulations. Age-appropriate resources will be available for participants of all ages. Refreshments will be provided. As a bonus, there will also be special giveaways!
Wednesday, Nov. 15: 1:00 - 2:30 PM
It is never too early to begin to prepare for life after high school. Join us to learn about Transition Services for students with an Individual Education Program (IEP) ages 14+ in the Los Angeles Unified School District. This session will focus on the pathway to a diploma for students with disabilities, the difference between a diploma and a Certificate of Completion, and new California legislation establishing a pathway for select students on the alternate curriculum to earn a diploma. We will also provide an overview of the programs available for students on the alternate curriculum in adult transition programs.

Be a part of your school improvement process by learning about where to find school data on the Open Data Portal and the School Experience Survey Dashboard. Participants will gain knowledge about the importance of data when advising or making decisions as a school committee or council member.
Monday, Nov. 27: 5:30 - 7:00 PM
Prepare your child to unlock the world of reading. Families will learn how to support their children in laying the foundations of early literacy skills using a structured literacy approach. Parents and caretakers will learn engaging strategies that support their children with print awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics, which are the building blocks for strong readers. Through phonemic awareness, they'll master the art of recognizing and playing with the sounds that shape language. As students begin their journey into phonics, they'll acquire the ability to decode words and embark on reading adventures independently. Join us on this exciting path, and together, we'll unlock the magic of reading!

Come learn about the connection between assessment, what is being taught (instruction), and the supports for our students to thrive academically. i-Ready is a suite of computer-based assessments that is designed to provide a complete picture of student performance and growth across math and ELA. The reports generated highlight student strengths, areas of growth, and resources to provide next steps and a personalized learning pathway for students.

The Los Angeles Unified Region Ambassadors will be valuable advocates and guides who inform their school communities about District services and resources.
The pathways for ambassadors will be centered on:
- Students with Special Needs
- English Learners (Emerging Bilinguals)
- Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP)
Each segment of learning will be hosted in a hybrid format to meet the preference of our diverse families. This means you can learn with us in-person and online.
