Greenwood Elementary
Hello Greenwood Families!
Our Greenwood Gators have been having such a great year in Library Media! I am so proud of all they have accomplished.
Over the winter, Kindergarten and First Graders worked so hard to learn the parts of a Chromebook, become familiar with the Qwerty keyboard, and develop their trackpad skills. They are very comfortable with their devices and have been successful in using their email address and password to login independently! This is a skill they will be using until they graduate 12th grade, they are off to an amazing start!
More recently, Kindergarten and First Graders have learned about that gold shiny circle you see from time to time on picture books - The Caldecott Medal. Ask them about the picture of the man and the horse. I bet they'd like to tell you why that picture on the medal is funny and why it was chosen.
As a precursor to our upcoming unit on Inquiry and Research, our Second Graders have been learning how to find information efficiently. They have learned to read a book's call number to determine whether it is fiction or nonfiction. They now understand how books are organized on the shelf which allows them to find books they are looking for quickly. And, in addition to nonfiction books, Second graders are using digital resources such as the PebbleGo database to find trustworthy information.
Our oldest Gators - 3rd and 4th graders are also gearing up for their Inquiry and Research projects. They have been working hard to develop their word processing skills, they have learned how to find books using Destiny, our school's Online Library Catalog, and they are able to identify different types of resources where they can find factual, trustworthy information such as nonfiction books, databases, and trusted websites.

Kindergarten
These students from Mrs. DiVasta's class are showing off the Certificates of Achievement they earned by logging in to their Chromebook independently. They are so proud!
First Grade
First graders in Ms. Doherty's class are getting revved up to dance and sing along to one of our favorite tunes about the Qwerty keyboard. Ask them what happens when we sing Q-W-E-R-T-Y-U-I-O-P? It can get a little silly, but it's a lot of fun!
