Important Fifth Grade Information for Middle School
Welcome to the CMIT Family! We are excited that you have chosen to join the CMIT North Middle School Community. On Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. and Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from 12:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. we will be having parent orientation sessions.
Summer Bridge program
CMIT North Middle School is offering a summer bridge opportunity for incoming rising 6th grade students. The program will consist of four weeks of in-person learning that will target each student's individual needs in Reading and Math. Each class will have a professional educator supervising the learning experience and providing instructional support. It will also provide an opportunity to become oriented to the school facilities and meet faculty and staff making the transition to CMIT North MS a little easier. Space is limited. Students are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Where: CMIT North Middle School, 6100 Frost Place, Laurel, MD 20707
When: July 6th through July 28th from 9am to 12pm daily (except for any PGCPS holidays)
Supplies: Students are not required to wear uniforms. Students should bring notebooks, pens and pencils.
Drop Off: Students will be dropped off at the back of the school at the cafeteria doors. Doors will open at 8:30 AM for all students. Please note that at 9AM the cafeteria doors will close because our learning sessions begin. If a student arrives after 9AM, they must enter through the front of the building. We recommend that all students arrive before 9AM to take full advantage of the Math and RELA sessions.
Pick Up: Students must be picked up at the back of the school no later than 12:15 pm.
Food: Students should also bring a water bottle and a light snack that they can eat during their mini-snack break. Students may also bring breakfast to eat before the learning sessions begin. CMIT North Middle School will not be providing food to any scholars this summer.
Technology: Students will be provided with technology during the days for the summer session. Students are not allowed to bring personal laptops/computers as they will not be permitted to have wifi access. If your scholar knows their Prince George's County Public School account information (login and password), please have them bring it with them to the summer session.

Attendance
Please note, we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann (sally.warf@pgcps.org), Dr. Fryson (tfryson@cmitelementary.org) and Mrs. Virgil (evirgil@cmitelementary.org). Hello Parents/Guardians!
As we are now into cold/flu season and also still dealing with COVID-19, this note serves as a gentle reminder regarding a few things related to student health.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL
1. Sick children need to be kept home from school; to include excessive coughing, sore throat, runny nose/congestion, vomiting, and/or high body temperatures (fever). Resting at home will help them get better more quickly and will prevent them from exposing other children or the staff to their illness.

Hello Kindergarten Families,
Please check the weather daily, so your scholar is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Please make sure that you are reading any messages via dojo, class story, or emails pertaining to your scholar’s class.
We have completed all of our testing for the year, hip, hip, hooray. We will finish out the year with our annual fun field-day, which includes activities inside and outside of the building through-out the day. KIndergarten’s class color is purple, please have your scholar represent in as much purple as possible. Our scholars will be eating lunch in our classrooms, so please be mindful and do not pack any nut products for your scholar for lunch on Monday, we will not have a nut-free table. We will also celebrate our annual butterfly release as a school-wide event in the afternoon on Monday. Please send your scholar to school with a water bottle, comfortable tennis shoes, and purple outfit (t-shirt, shorts, or pants.
We will be doing fun, hands-on activities for the beginning of the week, as well as practice as we prepare to celebrate our promotion ceremony on Thursday.
Kindergarten promotion ceremony will be on Thursday, June 8, 2023 (each student will receive 3 tickets for the ceremony, that includes parents as a guest)
Ms.Thornton’s class will be wearing the color white.
Ms. Echols class will be wearing the colors white with a splash of yellow.
Ms. Tate’s class will be wearing the color white with a splash of blue.
Ms. Major’s class will be wearing the color blue.
The first ceremony will be at 8:30am and that will be Ms. Thornton and Ms. Echol's class. The 2nd ceremony will begin at 11:30am and that will be Ms. Tate and Ms. Major's class. A link was posted in our class story for you to add your guest information that will be attending the promotion. You may use the link below if you have not connected with your scholar's Class Dojo. Please only complete it one time, each scholar will receive 3 tickets for the promotion ceremony. Your scholar siblings that attend CMIT will not need a ticket.

Friendly reminder: Class Dojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities, events, and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar’s Class Dojo. Teacher emails and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well.

Please provide a nut free snack for your scholar daily. Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes that are labeled with their name (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies.
If your scholar’s form of transportation changes for dismissal, please complete the necessary forms and upload into the document, as well as notify your scholar’s teacher.

Sensational Second Graders
We had a busy week in second grade, and we are incredibly proud of everyone for their hard work and dedication during testing. Each and every student gave their best effort, and we commend them for that.
Can you believe how close we are to the end of the school year? Time has flown by, and next week will be our last full week together. It's amazing to see how much our students have grown and accomplished throughout the year.
We have some exciting events planned for next week. On Monday, we will be having our highly anticipated Field Day! It will be a day full of fun outdoor activities and friendly competitions. We encourage our students to come prepared with comfortable clothing, sunscreen, and a water bottle for this enjoyable day.
On Tuesday, we have an exciting in-school field trip planned with the Science Guys of Baltimore. It promises to be an engaging and educational experience for our students. Please make sure to turn in the permission slips no later than Monday, so we can ensure everyone can participate in this fun learning opportunity.
Throughout the week, we will be wrapping up any remaining work that we have not been able to complete yet. Our students have worked diligently throughout the year, and we want to ensure they have the opportunity to finish strong. We appreciate your continued support in encouraging your child to complete any outstanding assignments and put forth their best effort.
As we approach the end of the year, we want to express our gratitude for your partnership and support in your child's education. It has been an incredible journey, and we are honored to have been a part of your child's growth and development.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are here to support you and your child as we navigate these final weeks of the school year together.

Terrific Third Graders
This week in Reading, students will read a procedural text called "A Safety Plan: In Case of Emergency."
Students will work on suffixes ending in -en.
This week in Social Studies, students will learn about being a good citizen.
This week in Math, scholars are working on our Step Up to 4th Grade, where we are focusing on using the thousands place. We are working to help scholars quickly relate multiples of 10.
In Science, scholars are looking at how fossils form, and what fossils can tell us about what life used to be like.
Fourth Grade
Fantastic Fourth Graders!
The light at the end of the tunnel for summer break is getting brighter. We are proud of all the hard work that each student put forth this year.
Next week in Reading, we will be reviewing previously taught concepts. In Social Studies, we will be working on our 5 region road trip. In Math, students will be working on Stepping Up to 5th Grade.
Field day is on Monday June 5th. Students are encouraged to wear a red shirt with any pants. Please also ensure that your scholar has a bottle of water.
We are almost there. We can make it!

Fabulous Fifth Graders
Tigers! Tigers! What a week! We finished off strong by completing our MAP Reading and Math NWEA test and now we are headed toward the finish line! Way to go scholars! Next week, we will celebrate our hard work and have our Promotion Ceremony on Friday! Mrs. Moon's and Mrs. Robinson's class will celebrate at 8:30-9:30 and Mrs. Tellis's and Mrs. Linton-Philp's class will celebrate at 11:30-12:30. There are three tickets that each student will be assigned to give their guests. Please ensure you have filled out the 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony Form so that each guest is counted for. Thank you for your hard work this year tigers! Congratulations on your success!

This week, students attended the Spring Book Fair, and complete their Spring RELA MAP assessment. Next week, we will be finishing up the curriculum and getting ready to start packing up the year.
Math & Science
This week in Math, students will be able to identify and graph points with rational coordinates on the coordinate plane, and reflect points with rational coordinates across both axes.
In Science, students will describe how organisms use matter.
Social Studies
Students will be assessed on Chapter 11 and 12.

Students in grades 3-4 are finishing up recorder playing in class, but BELT TESTING will still be available online via Flipgrid (linked on their Google Classroom).
We are finishing up the year with some fun in musical genres or musical team building games. We know each other very well by the end of the year - but our team skills are going to be tested when all members of the class are needed to do their part!

In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice with keyboarding using the cursor, arrows, tab, backspace, and delete keys as they move the cursor, remove text, and create large spaces.

Students learn about how computing devices are used in our personal and professional lives. They also learn about specific careers that use computers extensively and how data collection and visualization is a powerful tool that computers make easier.

Tigers have presentations. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to finish their projects and critiques. Projects include portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, abstract, and other activities that develop their understanding of depth of field and value. We will continue to stress craftsmanship as a priority.
