The Viking Spotlight is the part in my weekly newsletter used to highlight and celebrate our students and staff anytime we can! If you would like your child acknowledged for something they have accomplished, whether on campus or off-campus, please feel free to fill out this google form HERE. I look forward to celebrating our Vikings and all of the great things they are doing!

So many exciting things happening in Week 4 at MVA!! It's our first Spirit Week of the Year, Viking Week with daily lunch activities, Open House on Thursday, and then we end the week with Viking Day and our first rally!! Looking forward to seeing all of the spirit our Vikings have this week and also looking forward to seeing parents on Thursday! Check out the flyers below for more info!

Last Friday, we had 8th Grade Picture Day and makeups for any 7th graders who missed Orientation. At this point, the expectation is that you carry your school ID in a safe place with you at all times! The cafeteria lines go a lot faster when you have your barcode to scan and earning points on 5-star goes a lot faster when we can just scan your barcode! So, Vikings, please bring your ID to school every day and keep it safe!

Are you ready for another Music Monday?? 🎶 Congratulations to Mr. Garcia's Advisory class for winning last week's Music Monday! Remember, the 3rd caller to correctly name the artist and title of the song earns donuts for their entire Advisory class and points in 5-star! In addition to that, the winning Advisory class gets to pick the playlist for lunch that day! Who will be our next winner?!?! 😉

We are so excited to welcome our Viking families to campus this Thursday to participate in Open House. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet your child's teachers and hear the expectations for each class. We encourage all families to attend and students will even get bonus points on 5-star that they can use to cash in for rewards. We will start the evening with an Information and Club Fair where food and drinks will be available for purchase, as well as school/community information and giveaways. At 5:30pm, we will have a brief parent meeting in the cafeteria and then move to the Viking Stage to start our program. At 6:10pm, parents will head to their child's classes in the order of Advisory, Periods 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Again, we hope that you can make it as parent involvement is a crucial piece to the success of our students! See you on Thursday evening!

We understand that many of our students had some schedule changes that they do not agree with, but we would like to ask for your continued patience and understanding as the changes we made were a necessary component of the balancing process and meeting contractual deadlines. With such a small school, the master schedule is very tight so the moves we make with schedules are necessary. Thank you again for your understanding.

Participate each day to earn points for yourself and your advisory class! 🤗🎉

Be sure to participate in the one, some, or all of the lunch activities each day this week! Many of them will give you the ability to earn points on 5-star! On Friday, for Vikings Day, complete all of the task throughout the day and earn even more points on 5-star!! Let's go Vikings!!

Are you interested in playing baseball, softball, or basketball?!?! Well, now is your chance because our fall sports tryouts start this week!! No experience necessary, however you must enroll in the after-school program in order to participate in sports! This week will focus on completing the athletic clearance process and free play. Please see the flyers below for more information!

We will be starting our Saturday Academy on Saturday, August 12th. Saturday Academies are a great opportunity for Viking students to either get extra help/tutoring from a teacher or clear absences/tardies from school, or both. They are offered about twice a month throughout the semester, so be sure to save these dates listed below!

Remember ALL students will be able to participate in the free universal program offered in

California. This means that your children will be able to eat ONE (1) free breakfast/snack and ONE (1) lunch every day. Although meals are free, we ask that you still complete this form HERE, if you didn’t already do so during your online registration.

Use the form HERE to submit a photo taken with your school issued iPad of you and your classmates participating in our Spirit Days. The top participating Advisory each semester will earn a Pizza Party from the ASB.

Pictures submitted must CLEARLY show Vikings participating in the ASB Spirit Day ON CAMPUS for consideration (make this obvious). Photos that include inappropriate hand gestures, clothing attire, or suggest inappropriate behavior will not be taken into consideration and will be forwarded to MVA Administration for further review. All photos will be reviewed by the ASB.

Help our school be a safe place for you and your friends! If you have information on incidents surrounding bullying, vandalism, safety concerns, etc., report it anonymously to p3tips.com or use the app!

In an effort to help support our MVA students, we welcome any donations of school supplies and/or money. All funds would go directly to supporting our MVA students in the form of spirit shirts, celebrations, recognition awards, school supplies, and more. Checks can be made payable to Mar Vista Academy ASB and tax-deduction forms will be provided upon receipt. Any questions, please email Ms. Scott.
