Red Ribbon Week
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please join us in celebrating Red Ribbon Week at Chancellor October 31-November 4! Every year, schools across the nation celebrate Red Ribbon week to spotlight the importance of committing to a life free of drugs, alcohol, and violence. We will have different themes and activities planned each day here at school. Please view the theme calendar below on how to participate. Thank you for helping us make this year’s Red Ribbon Week a success!
**Participation is voluntary, and not required. Alief ISD’s dress code policy states that all clothing worn during the week must be worn properly in the manner that they were intended. All clothes must be appropriate.
School to Home Connections
Increase your child's achievement through Goal-Setting!
To get your child started:
1. Ask your child to identify one goal at the beginning of the week, month, grading period etc. Example goals can be finish reading a book, making an A on a Spelling Test, etc.
2. Have your child write down the goal and post it in a visible spot.
3. Discuss with your child how they will achieve this goal.
4. Check on the progress of the goal, after a few days. If there are any obstacles, come up with some solutions.
5. Evaluate together at the end of the time period.
Working toward a goal helps students learn that problem-solving is an important part of life.
Birthday Celebrations
Health and Safety
Facial Coverings
Current CDC guidance recommends the wearing of facial coverings for vaccinated and unvaccinated persons when indoors and in confined spaces.
Self Screening
The best way to prevent the spread of illness in our schools is to stay home when ill. Students should not attend school if they have a fever of 100.0 F or higher or new onset of any of the following symptoms of illness that may include:
• Loss of taste or smell
• Cough
• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• Headache
• Chills
• Sore Throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Exaggerated shivering
• Significant muscle pain or ache
• DiarrheaAttendance
Things to remember about attendance procedures at our school:
1) School starts at 7:45 a.m.—students who are not in class by 7:55 a.m. are considered tardy. Students who are 30 or more minutes tardy, will be considered as a “POD30”, which is a part-of-day attendance violation.
2) K-5th Dismissal is at 3:05 p.m. (Pre-K 3:15 p.m.)—students may not be released after 2:40 p.m. because dismissal procedures will have already started.
3) Students who are picked up before dismissal time will be considered as an “early leave”, which is a part-of-day attendance violation.
4) Excuse notes for absences must be returned to the front office no later than 3 days after returning to school.
5) If your child has excessive absences that have been excused by parent notes, the principal has a right to not allow anymore parent notes as excuses--only doctor's notes or notes from the school nurse will be excused.
Let us know how we can best support you and your children so that they can show up for school on time every day. We want your child to be successful in school! If you have any questions or need more information please contact our front office.
