North Crawford Elementary Family Newsletter

Dear North Crawford Families,
I trust this message finds you well amidst the winter season in Wisconsin. I extend my appreciation for your diligence in ensuring your children are equipped with appropriate winter gear. Given the current snowy conditions, please advise them to bring either waterproof gloves or multiple pairs of cotton gloves to maintain dry hands during recess.
I am pleased to inform you that Report Cards for Term 1 will be distributed on Friday, January 26th. Our English Language Arts (ELA) team has diligently worked to enhance the clarity of grade-level standards, aiming to facilitate a better understanding for families.
Family Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, February 15th. Similar to the previous semester, kindly utilize the teacher's document for sign-up, preferably on a desktop computer. Should you encounter any challenges during this process, please feel free to reach out to Jessy in the office or your child's teacher for assistance. During conference I hope you can join me in showing appreciation for our staff with contributing to a taco bar. (See flyer below - signup link)

What have our Staff Been Working On?
ELA / Math Teacher Teams
The Math Team has identified four curricula to explore more deeply, including our current curriculum. During their next meeting, they will complete the detailed rubric to allow them to compare and contrast the programs. They also compiled a list of curricula used by area communities as well as those schools’ corresponding Forward scores for Math Proficiency. Team members will visit schools with high Math Proficiency scores as well as those that use curricula in which we are interested. In addition, two teachers will pilot some units from Illustrative Math to get an in depth look at its rigor.
The ELA Team recently completed a report card revamp. Their next efforts are concentrated around how to best support the school / home connect for working together on students' reading success. Within the conversations the following next steps were outlined:
- providing them with a concise list of "must-haves" throughout the year for their grade
- pinpointing what skills their kid(s) need to work on at specific times throughout the year
- ways we can use data to show growth at conferences from beginning to end of year
- giving families practical ways to practice/work with their kids at home
- planning social ways to present parents with fun ways to practice academic skills and strategies
