PICTURES AND NEWS
INCREDIBLES ON THE SNOW TUBES
This is the lowest snow year in more than a decade and it has minimized students' opportunities to use the School's snow tubes. During this school year only five days have had deep enough snow to make tubing safe and possible.
Here are photos of some students on Team Incredibles during their mid-morning recess. They loved the fast conditions and the lack of wind. Link to 24 Pictures. 2-20-2024
POM POM NUMBER GUESSING SPIRIT WEEK CHALLENGE
Groups of students from each classroom dropped by to place their best pom pom number guess in a collection box. When the results are known, they will be shared in the announcements.
INCREDIBLES 4TH GRADE STEAM PRESENTATIONS
Fourth graders have been working on written descriptions and visual models of concept inventions that could help our national park system in a variety of ways. Some students envisioned better ways of collecting and managing park trash. Others developed designs for safe habitats or migration pathways for park wild life. Their visual models were drawn using Tinker Cad software. If designs are created correctly, it is possible for them to be 3-D printed. Brief slide show presentations of their work were given to the fourth grade group and to their supervising adults.
RENAISSANCE 8TH GRADERS COOKING ACTIVITIES
Health teacher, Ms. Robinson, created four cooking stations for her Renaissance students to choose from on Monday morning, 2-19-2024. One person created a roasted cauliflower dish, another a large ham, cheese and fried egg sandwich, and three other students made tater tots from scratch. It was clear that the students enjoyed the challenge of following cooking instructions and preparing food. Several of the students claimed that this was their first real cooking experience. The cooks got a chance to taste the products of their work at lunchtime on Monday.
COOKING EXPERIENCE
Mr. Ellis facilitated the making of rice crispy treats with some students on Friday afternoon. They were to celebrate a student's birthday (Sunday) so he chose to use his favorite color, red, to dye them.
USA SPIRIT WEEK (MONDAY PHOTO)

BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Black History Month is a celebration of Black American history and achievement that takes place each February in the United States. It is also called African American History Month. During Black History Month, many people learn about the accomplishments of individual Black Americans as well as the contributions of Black people to American history. This February, we are excited to celebrate Black voices with books that center around Black lives, Black joy, and Black stories that are sure to resonate far beyond a single month of the year. Join us as we #ShareBlackStories and checkout books from our City School library collection.
MICHELLE OBAMA
Meet Michelle Obama, the iconic first lady, advocate, lawyer, and author.
Young Michelle grew up on the South Side of Chicago in a close-knit family. She loved school, achieving A’s, and worked hard to blaze trails at the universities of Princeton and Harvard. Then, at the beginning of her legal career, she met Barack Obama. As first lady, she used her platform to advocate for women and girls and continues to inspire many with her powerful voice, and best-selling books.
AMANDA GORMAN
Meet Amanda Gorman, America’s astounding young poet and activist.
From an early age, Little Amanda read everything she could get her hands on, from books to cereal boxes. Growing up with an auditory processing disorder and a speech impediment, Amanda had to work hard, but ultimately she took great strength from her experiences. After hearing her teacher read aloud to the class, she knew that she wanted to become a poet, and nothing would stand in her way. At the age of 19, she became America’s first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate. And, after performing her inspiring poem ‘The Hill We Climb’ at the Presidential Inauguration in January 2021, she became an icon across the world.
