APRIL 2022
President's Update
Dear Faculty Colleagues,
April is typically a month of abundant rain (not in Southern California). However, April does bring a “shower” of activity to Academic Senate.
Pay attention, as many board policies and administrative procedures come through the last few meetings of the year. These provide the WHAT & HOW of our college business. All the Academic Senate subcommittees provide either written or oral reports at the April 15th meeting. Learn about what has transpired over the year and what is in store for next year.
All members of the MiraCosta College community are invited to join our meetings via zoom; or listen as it is streamed live.
Lastly, watch your emails for announcements around the Great Committee Call and the Office Derby (full-time faculty only).
In unity,
Luke

This resolution proposed a new student-led organization should be started on campus to support the targeted community.
-Student Senate approved the recommendations from Legislative Affairs committee for resolutions that will be presented at this year's SSCCC assembly.
-Student Senate approved two funding requests

Professional Development Program (PDP) Updates
- Join Thao Ha and Denise Stephenson on Friday, April 22 at 1 pm for an interactive discussion of the campus read: Equity Talk to Equity Walk. https://miracosta-edu.zoom.us/j/97833864512
- The AS has researched equity-based data coaching and votes as this newsletter goes to press on a request for a proposal from PDP. Conversations with the Cultural Curriculum Collective, Strong Workforce Institute, VPI Denée Pecarmona, IPRC and RPIE will be needed to envision how a data coaching program can be institutionalized at MiraCosta.
- PDP and DEqCC are reviewing two Cultural Competence trainings proposed by Charlie Ng as onboarding for all MiraCostans.
- Throughout this academic year, PDP has been exploring mentorship in collaboration with DEqCC and TREC. Specifically, PDP is considering what revisions would improve the Lodestar and First Friday tenure faculty orientation pieces. But the question of how to better support associate faculty is also in the mix. If you have ideas, please send them to Denise Stephenson.
- PDP is looking for the next coordinator--is that you? See email from Luke Lara 3/28.
