DWI Docudrama Before Prom Shows Students The Effects Of Drunk Driving
Hallsville High School juniors and seniors watched as emergency personnel worked an alcohol-related crash and extricated their peers from the wreckage of a staged docudrama this morning. The mock DWI scene provided insight to students on how drunk and distracted driving can devastate themselves or a loved one’s life. The alcohol awareness docudrama involved the coordinated efforts of Missouri State Highway Patrol, Hallsville Police Department, Boone County Fire Protection District, Boone Health Ambulance Service, Parker-Millard Funeral Home, and Doug Perry Towing.
HHS senior Shana Rounsavall played the role of the impaired driver that killed a classmate. “Seeing my mom’s reaction as she ran into the scene was really impactful. She works for the Boone County Fire Department and is a part-time EMT. She sees events like this every day, and I would never want to be the reason she experiences this type of pain.”
Senior Ethan Vordtriede played the role of the deceased student and was removed from the scene by Parker-Millard Funeral Home. “Sitting in the car, I could reflect on the impact this would have on my family and friends. I have the opportunity to come back, and in real life, that isn’t possible.”
After the scene, students heard from emergency personnel on the statistics of drunk and distracted driving and listened as HHS principal Matthew Cooley read Voltriede’s obituary written by his drama peers.

HHS Day of Service & Career Day
Today Hallsville High School students participated in Day of Service & Career Day, run by the HHS Counseling Department and district administration. Students completed community service projects within the area, including helping clean Tribble Park, repainting parking lines downtown, planting flowers and weeding at local churches, and cleaning up near the Hallsville Community Fairgrounds. In addition, students participated in mock interviews, learned resume-writing tips, and had the opportunity to apply for jobs.
Thank you to the local businesses, churches, and organizations for giving our students an opportunity to learn and give back to the community outside of the traditional classroom environment. Thank you also to all the individuals and businesses that took time out of their day to help better prepare our students for their future.

Building Our Tribe: Bond Construction Update
SM Wilson is finalizing plans for mobilization and beginning construction at the stadium and middle school. Two change order requests are presented and approved by the Board.
The first is a voluntary credit to the owner's contingency for reducing the length of the artificial turf from 2.25 inches to 2.0 inches. The second is for the coordination and relocation of three district-owned fiberoptic runs in and around the stadium complex. All three lines will be disrupted by construction, and all three lines are needed to maintain current operations. The relocation of the fiberoptic lines is outside the scope of the project as bid and will require the use of the district's contingency funds built into the GMP.
