Williams Parent Bulletin
March 2022
Hello Spring!
Congratulations on helping our Wildcats reach their seventh month of school and the end of our second trimester. We could not have gotten this far without all of your help and support! In addition, we look forward to celebrating a "nation of diverse readers" as part of this month's Read Across America event.
During the month of March, students are learning the meaning and importance of the character trait of trustworthiness. Together we can help our students to develop the tools and strategies they need to make good choices.
UPDATE: This week, we stopped temperature checks at the entry gates and as you've heard, we'll be following updated face mask protocols after March 11th. The following message was sent out to families from Ventura County Public Health. "The Masks mandate for Ventura County students ends after March 11; Masks will be Strongly Recommended but not Required; Students at public and private K-12 schools in Ventura County and throughout California will no longer be required to wear masks after March 11, regardless of their vaccination status."
Please begin having conversations with your family and children as to how you'd like to proceed after March 11th. A supply of masks will continue to be available for staff and students and we'll continue to operate our HESD COVID-19 testing sites to ensure that testing is readily available.
Thanks for being there for all of our Wildcats!

Parents can help develop a love of reading too!
- Learning to read takes practice: Loving to read takes enthusiasm. Read with your child often and create a sense of enjoyment, wonder, and a passion for reading.
- Read to your infants and toddlers: It’s never too soon to start reading to your children! Kids who learn early to associate reading with pleasure are more likely to enjoy reading on their own when they're older.
- Read aloud to your child: Even if your child has started school, you still need to read to him or her at home. Your child will do better in school, and you’ll enjoy the time spent together.
- Read during the break: Put good books into your kids’ hands and connect them to vibrant spring and summer break learning adventures.
- Keep books handy: How do you choose the books you read? If you’re like us, you pick what interests you. Given the choice, your child will do the same. Build a small home library for your child, check out books from your local library or have reading apps installed on your child's iPad or Chromebook.
Breakfast available before school!
REMINDER: Our wonderful kitchen team serves breakfast in the cafeteria EVERY DAY from 7:30-7:55 a.m. ONLY students are allowed in the cafeteria during breakfast.

CA Healthy Kids Survey - 5th Grade
Our 5th graders will be taking the CA Healthy Kids Survey to give us a better idea of what's working at Williams, where we can improve and what we can add to make our school a better place for all students. Permission slips will be going out to fifth grade families during the week of March 7-11. We look forward to our 5th graders' input. Thank you for your participation!
We need you!
Traffic and Parking Lot Safety
We need your help to address the traffic problems in front of Williams School. Please help us by being super careful when dropping off and picking up your children. We've observed and received numerous parent phone calls regarding cars being left running in the middle of the street without a driver, students crossing through cars on Anchorage Street, fast moving cars in our parking lot and a lot of UNSAFE driving behavior. Our partners from Oxnard PD have agreed to continue sending extra patrols during arrival and dismissal times. Please drive safe for the sake of all of our Wildcats.

Librarian Appreciation - March 28-April 1
On April 4th of each year, National School Librarian Day recognizes the professionals who keep the school library in working order. Our school librarian, Ms. Crutcher, spends long hours keeping our library organized. She is also dedicated to helping our students find the resources they need to keep learning. Being that April 4th takes place during our spring break, we will celebrate Ms. Crutcher the week before our break. Thank you for everything you do to keep our library running and looking great!
