What an amazing first full week of school! Take a look at all of the fun we had this week!

Thank you for your continued patience with the bus timing. Our dismissal routine is getting quicker everyday, so our buses are slowly getting closer and closer to their normal route times. We will only send notifications (through text message) if the bus leaves Evergreen after 3:15PM. The first several days of school, we were sending notifications more frequently since it was still within the first several days of school. We are working with the bus company to still correct some timing issues on a few of our routes. We are hoping to have this resolved in the coming days.

We are always hopeful that the bus drivers will be consistent on a bus route, but that is not always the case. Bus companies are having difficulty staffing their routes, so do not be alarmed if your child has a different bus driver. All bus drivers are trained and vetted through Illinois Central, the busing company we use. Evergreen will be providing our buses with signs to place in the bus windows that will state the bus number and Evergreen. This way you know your child is getting on the correct bus. Unfortunately, if there is a sub or a different bus we can not guarantee the sign will be in the new buses window.

School will be closed Monday, September 4th for Labor Day. We will see you Tuesday, September 5th.

Please be sure to turn in the required health documents for your student's grade. Students who do not submit the required documents may be subject to school exclusion. Kindergarten students need a physical exam and required immunizations to be completed and submitted by October 15, 2023, or they are subject to exclusion. Kindergarten students need a vision examination to be completed and submitted by October 15, 2023, or their report card may be held. Kindergarten and second grade students need a dental exam completed and submitted by May 15, 2024, or their report card may be held. The exam forms are available on the school website or at your doctor's office.

There seems to have been a glitch with the computer program with some of the health forms when some families were registering. If the building nurse requests an updated form or if you receive an email requesting you to complete it again, please do so. We want to make sure that we have all of the current information for all of our students.

Dates for Evergreen's vision and hearing screening have been added to the school calendar for mandated grades, teacher referrals, parent referrals, or students receiving special education services. If your student wears glasses or hearing devices, please be sure to send them with your student each day. In lieu of the screening services required, a completed and signed report form, indicating the child had an ear examination by a physician and an audiological evaluation completed by an audiologist within the previous 12 months, is acceptable. The parent or legal guardian of a student may object to hearing or vision screening tests for their children on religious grounds. If a religious objection is made, a written and signed statement from the parent or legal guardian detailing such objections must be presented to the local school authority. Screening instruments, test procedures and referral criteria are defined in the Illinois Administrative Code. Children whose test results meet referral criteria are referred to an eye doctor or family physician for further evaluation.

Thank you for attending our preschool, kindergarten and first grade curriculum night last night. It was wonderful to see so many of you in attendance!

During the month of September, Benjamin School District 25 uses the STAR Enterprise Assessment and Fast Bridge to determine instructional needs and address individual learning across the district.

STAR Enterprise is a computerized classroom assessment which will be used to build a complete picture of your child’s mastery of skills in reading and math, as compared to other students and the Illinois Learning Standards, across the country. This assessment employs computer adaptive testing which greatly reduces time required for testing and makes instructional time more productive by providing accurate information about student achievement, growth and instructional needs.

Fast Bridge CBMreading is used to identify the level of student’s progress in reading competency and fluency. Students read aloud a grade level passage for one minute.

We will share your child's scores with you once testing is complete.

The Evergreen arrival and dismissal areas are cellphone free areas. Please make sure not to be using your cellphone in your car (even if you are parked) and while walking with your students during arrival or dismissal.

Please call the office no later than 2:00pm if you have to change your child's pick up plan for the day (ex. student will no longer be riding the bus and will be picked up). This will allow staff to inform the correct people in the right amount of time.

Evergreen is a dog free property. Please make sure you are not using the preschool/kindergarten playground area as a fenced dog area. Evergreen playgrounds are also closed to the public during school hours (8:15-3:05) for students safety.

Please adhere to the signs indicating no left turn into and out of the parking lot of Evergreen school between the hours of 7:30-9:00 and 2:00-3:30. The Carol Stream Police Department will ticket you if you turn left.

Please remember to pack utensils in your child's lunch everyday. We do not always have extra utensils for students who forget!

Please join us for the curriculum night next week. This night is for parents/guardians to learn from classroom teachers about classroom procedures, routines, expectations and curriculum.

The Principal Presentation on both nights will be in the main gym and will review our SOAR expectations, arrival/dismissal procedures, safety drills, and communication pieces. (The presentation is the same as the one on the night of August 31st.) Parking will be limited on, so please walk or carpool if possible.

Open House Night for 2nd-4th grade will be September 7th.

If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please call the Evergreen Office, 630-876-7810, to report your child's absence no later than 8:00 AM the day of the absence. Please only email your child's classroom teacher about an absence after you have called the office. You can leave a message about an absence on the attendance line at anytime.
