Weekly Wrap-Up #37
Benedict A. Cucinella Elementary School
“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.” – Harry S. Truman
May continues to keep us busy right until the end! With less than 20 days left to go in the school year, the calendar just keeps filling up with more and more events!
This past week, we celebrated Memorial Day with a special visit from our Washington Township Veterans of Post 1776 on Wednesday. The Veterans held a flag raising ceremony outside which the whole school participated in. Mrs. Postigo led the 5th graders through an a cappella version of the National Anthem. The event then continued with Mrs. Positigo leading the whole school through a few more patriotic songs. At the conclusion of singing, Mr. Perruso said a few words about the importance of Memorial Day and the sacrifices that our Veterans have made for our country and our community. It was a truly wonderful day for our students and our Veterans.
This past week, we also finished our make up testing for NJSLA. All students in grades 3-5 have now completed all parts of the state assessment. Students in grades 1-5 will now start with the end of the year MAP assessment this week and next. Please continue to have your students bring their headphones and charge their Chromebooks in preparation for these assessments.
Assessment Dates
Grade 1- 6/1 and 6/2
Grade 2- 5/31 and 6/2
Grade 3- 5/30 and 5/31
Grades 4+5- 6/5 and 6/8
Lastly, a big shout out to Mrs. Postigo and the 1st Grade students for their wonderful performances last week. Mrs. Postigo arranged for two performance last week, one with Mrs. Rosato's and Mrs. Draghi's homerooms and one with Mrs. Wood's and Ms. Zugelder's homerooms. All in all, it was a wonderful opportunity for our students to show off all the musical knowledge they have learned over the past year and put on a beautiful performance for their parents and guardians! Thank you to all the students and a special thanks to Mrs. Postigo for all the hard work organizing and getting our students ready for their performances!

Update from Fourth Grade Science
Hello Families,
We recently challenged our Scientists to illustrate the layers of the Rainforest, after several days of reading and class discussion. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results, and wanted to share the finished projects with you! Your children worked diligently in cooperative groups to create accurate scientific drawings which accurately depict the layers and contents of the rainforest. We are so proud of all their efforts this year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Richardson and Mrs. Leonard
Kindergarten Round Up- June 5th and 6th
Attention parents of our incoming Kindergarten students, if you have registered your child for kindergarten, we will be holding our Kindergarten Roundup on Monday & Tuesday, June 5th & 6th. The roundup will last approximately an hour and fifteen minutes. There will be two session, one at 8:30 and another at 10:30. During this time, the incoming students will participate in a variety of activities with our Kindergarten staff. These activities help us to learn more about them as students and individuals.
While the students are off having fun with their teachers, the parents will be meeting with Mr. Perruso, Mr. Serfozo, Mrs. McCool, and Nurse Ewer so that we can provide you with an overview of Kindergarten and additional information you may need as your child embarks on his/her journey into education! We are looking forward to seeing you.
The Sign Up Genius link was emailed to all who have registered their child for the upcoming school year. If you did not receive an email, please contact Mrs. Deanna Dargel (ddargel@wtschools.org) for help.
A Message from Mrs. McCarty
Dear Families,
It’s that time of year again…when everything is due back at the library!
Starting Tuesday, May 24th, no materials may be checked out of the library, unless you need books for a school project.
We will still have Library Technology classes.
Friday, June 2nd ALL books are due back in the library, unless you need them for a school project.
If you cannot locate your library books they will need to be replaced with a NEW copy of the same title. Please contact Mrs. McCarty for details at pmccarty@wtschools.org.
Even though the library will be closed for the summer, you should never stop reading! There are many opportunities this summer to enjoy good books.
Visit the Washington Township Public Library and sign up for their Summer Reading Program.
Thank you for helping take care of our library's wonderful collection!
