In December of 1989, a small group of administration, faculty, and staff who saw a need to encourage students to graduate from the Akron School system created the Akron Community Graduation Fund. The Fund, established with donations, memorials, and the sale of POD books, was designed to give graduating students a small monetary reward for attaining their high school diploma. The first class to receive money upon graduation was the class of 1995.

Funds first start accumulating in first grade and grow until the class graduates. Donations may be made to the fund in general or to certain classes. Students are awarded money based on the number of semesters they are enrolled at Akron Schools and must graduate from Akron to be eligible to receive the award.

Plans are being made to raise money for this fund through a silent auction of basket items provided by each class. The silent auction will be held in April with the highest bidders announced May 1 at the elementary spring music concert. The baskets will be placed in businesses around Akron for the community members to place bids prior to the music concert. All donations are tax deductible and can be made to Akron Schools. If you have questions, or would like to donate to this fund, please call Mrs. Woods at 345-2268 or send checks to the school with a memo of “Akron Community Graduation Fund”.

Several staff, students, and community members met last Thursday to begin doing work on the Akron School District's Graduate Profile. The Graduate Profile narrows down what our students need in order to be successful after graduation. The profile will include a graphic that is representative of our community. The work that was completed will be sent to a graphic artist who will take what was created and combine it into one final product for our district. That final product will be shared out once it is received. The Graduate Profile has been made possible through a grant that BOCES received. Thank you to those who participated in this important work!

Akron hosted a unified basketball game on Wednesday, April 19 vs the Coyotes. The game was fun for everyone involved. The teams had great support from our student body.

The Akron Rams traveled to Caliche on Monday, the Rams walked away victorious, winning 23-13 in game 1, and 10-0 in game 2.

The Rams played on Tuesday against the Merino Rams losing 17-8 and 10-6.

The Akron Lady Rams golf team traveled to Holyoke Tuesday. The team played well with Kendall Velder taking third place with a 94.

Akron MiddleSchool tracksters traveled to Holyoke on Friday, April 14. Despite the chilly weather they were able to do some good things. Akron had several placers and are looking to improve this weekend as they will compete at Wray on Friday, at their own meet in Akron on Saturday, then again on Monday in Wiggins.
