We Are Okay by Nina LaCour
Marin hasn’t spoken to anyone from her old life since the day she left everything behind. No one knows the truth about those final weeks. Not even her best friend, Mabel. But even thousands of miles away from the California coast, at college in New York, Marin still feels the pull of the life and tragedy she’s tried to outrun. Now, months later, alone in an emptied dorm for winter break, Marin waits. Mabel is coming to visit, and Marin will be forced to face everything that’s been left unsaid and finally confront the loneliness that has made a home in her heart.

Americanized: Rebel Without a Green Card by Sara Saedi
At thirteen, bright-eyed, straight-A student Sara Saedi uncovered a terrible family secret: she was breaking the law simply by living in the United States. Only two years old when her parents fled Iran, she didn’t learn of her undocumented status until her older sister wanted to apply for an after-school job, but couldn’t because she didn’t have a Social Security number.
Fear of deportation kept Sara up at night, but it didn’t keep her from being a teenager. She desperately wanted a green card, along with clear skin, her own car, and a boyfriend.
Americanized follows Sara’s progress toward getting her green card, but that’s only a portion of her experiences as an Iranian-“American” teenager. From discovering that her parents secretly divorced to facilitate her mother’s green card application to learning how to tame her unibrow, Sara pivots from the terrifying prospect that she might be kicked out of the country at any time to the almost-as-terrifying possibility that she might be the only one of her friends without a date to the prom.

Research Project??
Don't forget to check out our array of databases on Foran's Teaching and Learning Commons' website under the Database page. Databases are an instrumental resource for reliable information that will aid in generating valid information and will provide an accurate citation to embed in any bibliography. Below I have included the link to our Database page along with a slide deck on conducting quality research.
Chromebooks PRINT!!!!
All Chromebooks have the capability to now print! When activating a print job, select "Foran Secure Print" under destination. You may have to click on "See More" to be brought to the list of printers to choose from. Once you select this destination and click PRINT, you can release it on our library printers by ONLY entering 888 along with the rest of your lunch # that begins with 9. Then select "Print Release" which will bring you to your print job; select the boxes next to their indicated name and click on PRINT. See me with any questions!
Change to Chill!
The below site tackles and addresses the antecedents of what elements possibly trigger stress along with various resources to combat and mitigate these stressors. Check out this organization that has carefully compiled self identifying and self care resources to help all teens face a myriad of stressful situations.
