The last couple of weeks have been very settled at Banksmeadow PS and lots of learning has been taking place in classrooms. Our Year 2 and 3 students completed their Swim Scheme lessons, with lots of students showing significant improvement in the pool. Students are enjoying their Backyard League lessons each Monday and are learning some great skills for use on the footy field and in team situations.

This week we will hear from a number of Year 5 students who are hoping to be elected as Leaders at Banksmeadow PS in 2017. Leadership speeches will take place on Thursday morning from 9:30am. Good luck to all students who will be delivering a speech. Students will vote for their leaders throughout the day.

At the end of last term, judges from the Bayside Council Annual Garden Competition came to the school to judge our gardens. They were impressed on the day and at last week's presentation night, our gardens were awarded first place in the Best School or Educational Facility - Children's Garden category. Thank you to all of the parents, students and community members who have contributed to our gardens this year. This award is a fantastic recognition for all of the hard work you have put in.

Ice Block Day

We will be holding another Ice Block Day this Thursday at lunchtime. Ice Blocks will be $1 and will be for sale under the Basement COLA at lunchtime.

Cards & Calendars - REPEAT

The annual 'Cards & Calendars' fundraiser is being held again this year. Each child in the school has created an artwork that can be turned into calendars, cards, diaries, mouse pads or sketch pads - $15 each. These make the perfect Christmas present for friends and family. Please return your order form and money to the school office by 18th November. If paying by cheque, please make cheques payable to Banksmeadow PS P&C. Spare order forms can be collected from the office.

2017 Enrolments - REPEAT

We are beginning to plan for 2017 classes. If your child will not be returning to Banksmeadow next year, or if you are aware of any families who will be moving into the area and hoping to enrol, could you please let Ms Hoskins know as soon as possible so as to assist with planning.

Selective High School Applications for Year 7, 2018 - REPEAT

Applications for selective high schools in 2018 are now open. Applications are to be made online at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement until Monday 14th November. Please note that no late applications will be accepted. Information regarding selective high schools can be collected from Ms Hoskins.

Parent Panel Representative Required

We currently have a vacant teaching position that will be advertised through merit selection. The panel that will be formed to determine this appointment requires a parent representative. Participation on the panel includes the reading of applications, a designated day for the shortlisting process and another day for the interview process. You do not need to be trained in this process to volunteer, as training can be given before the process begins. Nominations will be accepted at tonight's P&C meeting, where a vote may be held to determine the successful representative. If you are interested in nominating yourself to be the parent representative on this panel but are unable to attend the meeting, please email the P&C at bpspandc@hotmail.com
