CSD Superintendent Update
Cambrian School District, September 9, 2022
Dear Cambrian Families,
I hope you all had a productive and fun week and managed to stay cool.
As we settle into this new school year, I encourage you to get involved in your school site. Studies show that a strong connection between home and school benefits children tremendously. Students whose parents stay actively involved in their education do better in school and demonstrate a higher attendance rate, better social skills, and an increased graduation rate.
As a full time working mom, these statistics would often cause me stress. I did not always have the time to volunteer in the classroom. Being involved and connected to your child’s school can happen in a variety of ways.
Reach out to your child’s teacher and principal to find ways to get involved.
Talk about school with your children. Reading the principal and teacher newsletters can help you ask questions about school activities and daily events.
Look over their school work together and when possible, engage in homework and projects with them. Remember, your students are not going to love each day of school and they will struggle with friends and assignments from time to time. This is part of growing and learning.
Do more listening than talking and ask more questions than giving advice. This will empower your child to solve their problems and build confidence in themselves.
There are a multitude of volunteer activities to be fulfilled that will work for a variety of schedules, and you could be a tremendous help to your school community. Check your school newsletter for information on how to volunteer and make a difference. We are appreciative of your time and support.
Here is a Scholastic article on the subject that you might find interesting, and an article in Home and School Connection which features helpful ideas for parents.
The parent/school connection is invaluable. We are in this together!

California Supports Updated COVID-19 Boosters
Just a note to inform that California public health leaders support the emergency use authorization (EUA) of updated COVID-19 boosters:
Moderna bivalent booster for individuals 18 years of age and older.
Pfizer-BioNTech bivalent booster for individuals 12 years of age and older.
*Updated boosters for <12 years old are expected in the coming months.
The updated boosters are "bivalent", meaning they increase immunity against the original coronavirus strain while also protecting against the newer Omicron subvariants. The updated boosters reduce the most severe outcomes of COVID-19, such as hospitalization, long COVID, and death.
The state is prepared to offer the updated boosters to Californians 12 years and older as supplies arrive. We encourage individuals to check with their medical provider or local clinic for an updated booster appointment, or to book through vaccines.gov. Appointments will also become available through myturn.ca.gov in coming weeks.
