Subject: Iowa FIRST LEGO League Volunteer Opportunity- January 18/19, 2020
Good afternoon,
My name is Kennedy Cook, and I'm a part of the Engineering Outreach Programs Office at Iowa State University. FIRST LEGO League is a robotics and research challenge competition for youth aged 9-14. As student leaders, we help organize, work, and volunteer at the events all across the state, as well as the state championship held on the ISU campus.
Making events successful and safe takes a lot of people, and we're looking to recruit some volunteers. We would appreciate it if you would be willing to send the following information to the students on your floor/in your hall. Thank you in advance!
As a member of the community surrounding Ames and a faculty member at Nevada Middle School, this would be a great opportunity to show support to students you may have currently/ have in the future, and other students from around Iowa. The kids love to see that there are people who care about what they are passionate about.
*ALSO- I have attached a flyer to this email if it would be easier to share with people you may know, but you are more than welcome to forward this email to them too!

Do you want to inspire Iowa kids in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math? Celebrate 60 Plus teams’ amazing, learning experiences? Want to enjoy your Saturday and Sunday with some awesome kids?
FIRST LEGO League is a worldwide program in its 19th year of getting children eager to learn science, technology, engineering, and math. FLL helps children develop skills in problem-solving, teamwork, strategizing, and creative thinking.
3! 2! 1! BUILD! This year’s challenge is called CITY SHAPER and focuses on a city’s new, innovative solutions to help shape a better future. In the 2019 FIRST LEGO League Challenge, teams will become experts on creating practices for improving cities and making them more sustainable. Teams will identify an issue cities and communities face and design a solution, or improve upon an existing one, in order to share their solution with others.
You can help! Volunteers are what makes these FLL events succeed. You can help inspire kids to be interested in science, technology, and learning while having a blast yourself seeing what they have come up with their team.
Signing up now! FIRST has a system for volunteer registration that will allow you to see all events in Iowa. To apply for one or both State Championship events held on Saturday, January 18 & Sunday, January 19, 2020, click the link below and login or create an account with FIRST. Look for “Iowa FLL State Championship - Event 1” and “Iowa FLL State Championship – Event 2” under “Apply for an Event”.

Camp Kesem
Our names are Cole and Graham and we are a part of an amazing organization called Camp Kesem. Camp Kesem is a student-run organization that provides support for children who have been affected by a parent's cancer. One of our services is a free week-long summer camp where these kiddos can just be kids and leave their adult responsibilities behind. To be a part of Kesem, the child must be between the ages of 6-18. It is our mission to reach every corner of Iowa, and this is made possible by members of the community, such as you, who can help us by helping spread the news of this amazing organization.
We have attached an interest indicator form to this email for you to send out to families who might be interested in attending camp. Our camp this year is in Boone, IA from June 7-13. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, or to forward our email to any family or staff member you think would be interested. If your schedule allows and you would like more information, we would be more than happy to meet with you in person or via phone. We look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Thank you for your help in spreading the word!
