This Week at SHOJ
Sept. 11, 2020
From Mrs. Rhodes
And endurance produces character, and character produces hope.... Romans 5:4
I have been talking with principals around the county, ensuring that we are doing the best we can, asking what is working for them, finding ways to support all learners and teachers, and so much more (and the gating criteria is down today, 11.6%). In general we are all impressed with the students and their ability to adapt to change. Many of us can even name positive things that have come from this pandemic.
Most of us hope that this will all come to an end soon - and prayed fervently for this as well. As a staff, while preparing for the school year and praying over our class lists, we were encouraged to memorize the following Bible Verse,
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
We need to remember that under the struggles of a different classroom, new routines and even students learning remotely, that God will work good.
Our Catholic Parents as Stewards group has had to change many planned events for the upcoming school year (or at least postpone them). It was very important to them to keep the parent education meeting set for Sept. 17 at 7:30.
If we combine the above Bible verses, we can be a people of hope even with all our burdens of this virus. This is not always easy - especially in a family setting where our adult worries can combine with worries for our children and make many things difficult. Mr. Sam Rockford trained the teachers a couple years ago about the idea of growth mindset with students - growing success from the process of stretching our minds through the challenges of a new task - not just the focus on the one right answer right away.
Now more than ever, parents can benefit from his training. Seeing how we can help children believe that they are beloved children of God and helping them grow into the people God created them to be by the way we train our children at home can make our jobs easier.
This will be an hour well spent. Download the PDF flier for information on the zoom link - you will be able to ask questions during the presentation. We hope to make the recording available to everyone.
If you didn't take the mental health survey - last week....
We know that you know your child best and would love to hear how they are doing from your perspecitive. Attached below is the link to the Sacred Heart Mental Health Check In.
