Happy New Year! As we prepare to welcome students back to school on January 3, 2023, please be mindful to follow the DCPS Test to Return guidance, as shared under "News & Updates".

Save the date! On January 24, 2023, at 5:00pm, we will be hosting a student success showcase, in honor of our DC Public Education Fund, Standing Ovation Award. We will come together as a school communicate to celebrate. Additional information will be forthcoming.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our hats, scarves and gloves drive. We collected a total of 273 items, to provide to those in need.

Current students and their parents/guardians are invited to a special evening showcase event to celebrate the hard work and success of our students! Dinner will be served and tickets, while free, are required to attend. RESERVE A TICKET FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN HERE.

Please see the steps required by DCPS Test to Return Protocol, after winter break:

Here are the three steps families need to take:

1. Pick up a test kit!

• Schools will distribute COVID-19 test kits from December 20 through December 22. Please check your student’s backpack for the test kit.

• Families can also pick up a test kit from any District COVID Center, located in all 8 wards. You can find the COVID Center locations and hours here: https://coronavirus.dc.gov/covidcenters.

2. Test your student!

• All DCPS students are expected to take a COVID-19 test and report results on Monday, January 2.

3. Upload your test results!

If your student tests positive, follow all isolation guidance from DC Health and your child’s healthcare provider. Individuals who test positive on a COVID-19 test cannot report for in-person activities and should remain at home during their isolation period. This includes students who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Based on positive feedback from previous newsletters, the Student Support Team has compiled additional resources and information to support families in ensuring the health and well-being of our children. Beginning on January 3, 2023, all students in grades Kindergarten through 5 must have a signed permission form on file in order to walk or take public transportation home alone or with a sibling. No student will be allowed to leave school alone or with a sibling until the attached form has been signed and returned to the main office or emailed to hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov. Please note that PreK3 and PreK4 students are not eligible.

Before returning this form, please:

• ·Walk or review with your child on the route(s) they will use to travel to and from school.
• ·Be sure that your child knows their address, your phone number, and where to go or who to contact if there is an emergency.
• ·Discuss safe walking behaviors with your child, including crossing streets safely at intersections with crossing guards, marked crosswalks, or other safe locations. Please also keep in mind that the Hyde-Addison playground is NOT available for student use after school dismissal because it is reserved for the Champions afterschool program.

This form is only required for students who are walking or taking public transportation home without their parent, guardian, or another adult who is authorized to pick them up. Please return a separate signed form for each of your children, should you like.

We want to be sure students are able to safely exit the building for early dismissal, before end of the day transitions schoolwide begin. We are asking that Parents/Guardians arrive at the main entrance of the school building before 2:50pm to pick up students for early dismissal, which will provide time for them to gather their belongings and exit. You are welcome to call the main office to share your ETA, however students are not brought down until a parent has arrived to maximize learning.

If you would like a Kids Ride Free Card for your student, please fill out this short form. They will be sent home in students' backpacks on Mondays.

School mental health services and supports are an effective means of addressing the mental health needs of children and improving the learning environment. Click here if you would like to refer a student for mental health or counseling support provided by Ms. Stovall. Referrals will be processed by the Mental Health Team and staff will receive communication and updates regarding services.
