A Message From Our Principal
Message for Students and Parents
Dear Eagles,
We are excited to share with you that we have finished our WASC (accreditation) process recently and wanted to provide you an update. You may remember that our whole staff has been engaged in the WASC Self Study process since the Spring of 2022. Our WASC Report was submitted in December and the Visiting Committee came to campus March 6-8. While they were here they observed classes, and met with parents, teachers, administration, and students. You can review the Visiting Committee’s report here.
The visiting committee was incredibly complimentary regarding all of the opportunities provided to students at AGHS, notably, our course offerings, extracurriculars, and academic as well as social emotional support services. They were impressed with how well spoken our students were and remarked at the campus wide positive energy. They valued the work we’ve done to implement Core Values and Eagle Expectations across campus and each time they came back from observing teachers they spoke excitedly about the strategies our teachers were using to engage students.
They encouraged us to continue to seek feedback regarding our Advisory program to ensure positive outcomes for students and staff. They also recommended that we strengthen our professional learning communities to make data driven instructional decisions which will allow us to offer more immediate support to struggling students. We’re looking forward to continuing our efforts in these areas.
We are proud of the work our Eagle Family does each day and are looking forward to implementing the Action Plan from the visiting committee’s report. Please contact us with any feedback as it takes everyone to make this journey successful.
Go Eagles!

PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE
On March 27th, 1939, "March Madness" crowns its first men's NCAA Champion. The University of Oregon defeats The Ohio State University 46–33 on March 27, 1939 to win the first-ever NCAA men’s basketball tournament. "March Madness," as the tournament became known, has grown exponentially in size and popularity since 1939.
For the first 12 years of the men’s tournament, only eight teams were invited to participate. That number grew steadily until a 65-team tournament format was unveiled in 2001. In 2011, the field expanded even further, allowing 68 teams to qualify for the "big dance." After four “play-in” games between, now known as the First Four, the tournament breaks into four regions of 16 teams. The winning teams from those regions comprise the Final Four, who meet in that year’s host city to decide the championship.
The NCAA held its first women’s basketball tournament in 1982. The women’s tournament started with 32 teams, expanding to 64 teams before the 1994 season. Today, the women’s format echoes the men’s, with play in four regions culminating in a Final Four held in a single location. The championship is played the day after the men’s, concluding the college basketball season.
