Back to School 2022 Newsletter
A Note from Mrs. Carpenter
I look forward to meeting everyone on Tuesday, September 6th!
A bit about me: I am a proud wife and mother of 3, with 2 sons in college and a daughter just entering middle school. I have 21 years experience in education, including 10 years of teaching and 12 years in school leadership.
This newsletter includes resources and information for everyone to reference throughout the school year. Please be sure to view our Elementary Student Handbook. A hard copy of the sign off page will be sent home on the first day of school with your child. Please return this page as soon as possible.
I am looking forward to building relationships and having open lines of communication with the Clayville families and community. I wish you all a wonderful school year. I am honored to serve as your principal. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and know that my door is always open.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Miranda Carpenter

CHOOSE LOVE MOVEMENT FOR SCHOOLS- SEL CURRICULUM
Choose Love for Schools™ is a no cost, next-generation social and emotional learning (SEL) and character education program for Pre-K through 12th grades, designed to teach students, educators and staff how to choose love in any circumstance thereby creating a safer, more connected school culture.
Choose Love For Schools incorporates neuroscience and positive psychology to teach mindfulness, character, and emotional intelligence. These essential life skills and tools make students better learners, more desirable employees and happier, healthier, human beings.
Scituate Schools have adopted this SEL curriculum Prek-12! More information to come about how to incorporate this learning in your home.
Positive Office Referalls
These stars will be displayed in the hall adjacent to the cafeteria. These certificates are presented to students on Fridays. Monthly newsletters will include photographs of our recipients.
AMERICAN READING COMPANY: GRADES K-5
A key component of the program is the Independent Reading Level Assessment (IRLA), which is a tool that works with every student, at any reading level. The IRLA delivers specific and actionable data that tells the teacher where a student is, why, and the sequence of skills/behaviors she needs to learn next to accelerate her reading growth.
Parents, be on the look out for information about how to support this curriculum at home!
BRIDGES IN MATHEMATICS: GRADES K & 1
EUREKA MATH: GRADES 2-5
Parents, please note, Eureka provides a series of free Parent Tip Sheets at the topic level that include suggested strategies and models, key vocabulary, and tips for how you can support learning at home. Be on the look out for the tip sheets at the beginning of each module!
STEAM ENRICHMENT
Beginning in late September, students will have a 40-minute STEAM enrichment block weekly focused on various activities related to science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. This block of time is in addition to art, music, physical education, and library.
FALL BENCHMARKING ASSESSMENTS
Clayville teachers will begin fall benchmark assessments after the first two weeks of school. Staff members will then meet to analyze the data and create instructional groupings designed to provide targeted skill instruction to students with similar strengths and needs. The results of these assessments will be communicated to parents. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
