COVID-19 Protocols
- Parents/guardians are asked to use the daily School Screening Questionnaire to determine whether their child is displaying symptoms of illness which suggest they remain home.
- Students (and families) are encouraged to bring a filled water bottle to school each day. Water bottle filling stations are available to students to fill their bottles.
- Visitors, volunteers, and parents/guardians will not be permitted inside NLESD schools during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
- Outside food from restaurants or chains may not be delivered into schools since non-essential visitors are not permitted in the school during this time.
- As indicated through public health guidance to schools, all passengers on the bus are required to wear non-medical masks, regardless of age.
- The Provincial Government has also indicated Grades 7-12 students will be required to wear masks in all common areas of schools (including hallways), and if seated in their classroom if a one-metre physical distance (face to face) cannot be achieved. However, no student is required to wear a mask if they cannot tolerate it.
- Students and staff are prohibited from bringing items into our school for distribution to classes. Students are encouraged to bring in their own snacks for scheduled class celebrations that may occur throughout the school year.
- All school fundraising activities have been suspended during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
We would like to thank our families for your continued patience and cooperation as we continue to navigate these uncertain times together.
Virtual Assistive Technology (AT) Training and Support for Persons with Learning Disabilities
The Virtual AT Training and Support program targets children and youth with a diagnosed or suspected Learning Disability (LD) and their families from across the province. K-12 children who are struggling with their transition back to regular schooling and adaptation to online learning are supported. Young adults who are struggling with their transition to pursuing post-secondary education, gaining employment and parents and other family members who want to support children/youth with LD in their family are also supported. The service users are trained and supported by an Assistive Technology Tutor virtually through one-on-one sessions to use several specific assistive technology hardware and software (such as Read&Write, Word Q, EquatiO, Dragon, C-Pen, Livescribe and Chromebook) to overcome the barriers caused by LD to thrive in a socially distanced world affected by COVID-19. These sessions are tailored specifically to meet the needs of each service user to help them choose the most appropriate assistive technology that addresses their unique needs and train them in using those AT effectively.
Register for your one-on-one online Assistive Technology Training and Support session (this service is FREE and available during school hours as well): http://ldanl.ca/assistive-technology-training-and-support/
We welcome students, teachers and parents from across the province to make use of this opportunity. Please email tyler@ldanl.ca if you have any questions regarding the AT Program.

School Bus Safety
At this point in the school year bussing expectations should be well versed and followed by our student population. Unfortunately, the expectation of how to act and ride the bus is an everyday reminder to keep all our student’s safe. Please remind your children to respect the rules of the bus especially sitting in their seats properly, hands/feet to yourself, inside voice and most importantly showing respect for everyone riding the bus. These reminders go a very long way in keeping all our students happy and safe.
We want to remind parents/guardians and students of the following school district student transportation policies:
Bus Stop Supervision and Safety: The responsibility for the safe and timely arrival of students at a school bus stop, and the student’s safe return home from a bus stop, rests with the parent or guardian. Parents/guardians shall be encouraged to limit the time that students spend at the bus stop and to arrange for supervision of their children at the bus stop where appropriate.
Parent/Guardian Expectations: Parents/guardians are expected to support school bus safety and the efforts of the bus driver and school staff to maintain order, discipline and control of the bus. Ensure that their children are at the bus stop on time and supervised at the bus stop when necessary.
Kindergarten Students: Kindergarten parents/guardians should be outside on the stop waiting for your child to either get on or off the bus. The bus driver will not allow kindergarten students to leave the bus unless they can see a parent/guardian.
Additional information is available on the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District website regarding student transportation policies.
