A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families and Supporters,
As we approach the potential for snow fall, it is important that we share the snow day plan with all of you! The schedule is the same as last year. We would shift to a remote day if multiple snow days became a reality. We wanted to share with you our snow day schedule ahead of time so you can plan or provide feedback. Our main goal is to provide a schedule for families that is the SAME at the elementary level so if there are multiple children in one family, they can support one another and have the same experience. We hope this helps those adults in the home as well. Here is a copy of the schedule.
Couple of Important Points
- In order to count the day as a school day, we need 80% attendance. Attendance will be taken at the morning meeting indicated on the schedule.
- Please have your child engage in the schedule and work/activities assigned.
- If you have any questions or concerns during the day, I am available to you! mpitts@sau50.org
Warmly,
Michelle Pitts

Principal Chats
As we plan the rest of the school year, I have scheduled a morning and an evening of reflection and conversation with families. The title of this discussion will be "RES 101." During this time, I will plan to share with you the accomplishments of the year, thus far, as well as educate families on our "next steps" and common language we use at school each day. I would LOVE to have some feedback on topics you might find helpful. I want to cover as much as possible and know there might be questions and education that might be covered if I know your questions ahead of time. Thank you for your consideration!

Introducing Bri McCorkell
Hello Rye Community,
My name is Bri McCorkell and I am the new School Psychologist for RES + RJH. I will be supporting
both buildings between 2.5 days. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of you over the last week as I’ve been getting settled and I have been so touched by your warm welcome. And for those I haven’t met yet, hello!
I live in Stratham, NH in a 200+ year old farmhouse with my husband Rory, our sons Holden and Noah, our daughter Junie and a menagerie of pets and chickens. I love reading, going to concerts, traveling, dancing, fostering animals and spending my summers at the beach.
I have a master’s degree as well as a Sixth Year Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology
from Fairfield University, Fairfield CT. My diverse experience includes practice in private and public schools, PreK through High School, urban and suburban settings, the mental health field. I have direct experience at the elementary school level as an assistant teacher and substitute.
I have spent the majority of my career at the PreK-8th grade level as a School Psychologist & Counselor. I am also a certified INNATE Postpartum Doula, Reiki Master and Child Yoga teacher and have completed the coursework for my License in Professional Counseling. I believe that these experiences have added significantly to my skill set and helped me in my understanding and compassion for a wide variety of children and their families across socioeconomic settings.
Thank you for the honor of being a part of your school community.
I look forward to connecting with you!
Bri McCorkell
School Psychologist. MA, CAS + 60

2025 Teacher of the Year
Each year, New Hampshire schools take part in the State and National Teacher of the Year Program. Please help us spread the word about the 2025 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Program by posting the attached flyer.
Anyone can nominate an outstanding teacher by using this link on or before Feb. 2, 2024. Teachers may also self-apply by downloading an application here. Applications are due to the New Hampshire Department of Education (NHED) no later than March 21, 2024. All nominees that complete an application will be honored at a ceremony this spring.
The Teacher of the Year Program does not attempt to single out any individual as the best teacher in New Hampshire, but rather to honor one teacher who represents all the excellent teachers in our state. The purpose of the program is to select a teacher who can speak for and bring energy to the teaching profession. Our Teacher of the Year serves as a leader and ambassador for all the outstanding teachers devoted to the highest level of student learning. A Teacher of the Year candidate should demonstrate leadership and be exceptionally dedicated and knowledgeable. Candidates must be licensed educators with classroom experience at any state-approved or accredited school, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, and intend to continue in the teaching profession. Selecting a Teacher of the Year is an exceptional way to celebrate the many outstanding and dedicated people teaching in New Hampshire schools.
The 2025 NH Teacher of the Year will automatically be part of the National Teacher of the Year Program, a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) in partnership with the Voya Foundation. The National Teacher of the Year Program began in 1952 and focuses public attention on excellence in teaching. It is the oldest, most prestigious national honors program for the teaching profession. It is the mission of the National Teacher of the Year Program to honor our nation’s greatest teachers while providing rigorous professional learning for them as teachers and advocates.
If you have any questions, please contact Stacey MacStravic, Recognition and Award Programs Coordinator by calling (603) 271-3293 or e-mailing stacey.a.macstravic1@doe.nh.gov.

This Week's Highlights
Boom Whackers!
Spirit Week!
Mr. Magri Teaches about Energy!
Mike Magri, who works at Seabrook Power Station, came into the fourth-grade STEAM classes to reinforce learning of the vocabulary and concepts in their energy unit. He showed them how the power station produces and transfers nuclear energy into electric energy used in many New England areas, along with experiments on Potential and Kinetic Energy. He was also kind enough to bring in for all the students, sunglasses and mini flashlights that use a tiny generator to charge the battery. Having a professional come in and reinforce the many ways STEAM is integrated into the world, was absolutely amazing.

Lunch with Students
We do allow one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend.
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time (starting October 1). It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:15-12:40
Second Grade-12:15-12:40
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
