Principal's Message
California Distinguished School
Congratulations to Oak students, staff and parents for all their hard work. Yesterday, we were officially notified our application for California Distinguished School was accepted.
Oak Elementary School, along with the other nominees , will receive the award February 10 in Anaheim.
Today, while being interviewed by the Los Altos Town Crier, I was asked by the reporter, “What is the importance of this award?” I shared that this is a celebration of our partnership with our Oak Community.
It is representative of the hard work and dedication from all involved at Oak, from our students, parents, staff and community members, they are the reason our school was nominated and awarded this honor. Congratulations to all!
Musical Concert and Bake Sale
It was an incredible Winter Concert on Monday afternoon.
If you missed it, I will send each grade level parent contact the private link to your child’s performance. Stay on the lookout for this in the coming days.
Thank you LAEF for supporting music in our schools and thank you, parents, for your donations to make this happen. Thank you, PTA, for the delicious baked goods following the concert.
PTA luncheon for staff
On Tuesday, our staff was treated to a lovely luncheon by the PTA. We greatly appreciate the holiday cheer. It was extra special this year because we were serenaded with holiday songs from the MVHS Madrigals. Honestly, I spoke to several staff members and the performance was magical, bringing tears of awe for many of us.
Oak Avenue School Tours
Have you heard your neighbors talking about wanting to know more about Oak School? Perhaps a new family just moved into the area and they are looking at different school options. Maybe a neighbor has preschool-age children and they are inquiring about Oak School.
Please let families know Oak School is open for tours. Feel free to pass along my email address. I would be happy to set up a time to provide a personal tour and answer questions about the Oak School community. kattell@lasdschools.org

HOLIDAY SING/INSTRUMENTAL CONCERT/BAKE SALE
Thank you to everyone who made it to our Holiday Sing and Instrumental Concert on Monday afternoon. Our kids love seeing so many parents in the audience. An extra big thanks to the classroom teachers and LASD music teachers who did a wonderful job working with our kids to learn their songs. The kids did a great job!
ORDER HOT LUNCH!
The holidays and winter break are a busy time for many of us. It may slip our minds to order hot lunch for our children for the return to school in January. Don’t leave your child without lunch on the first week back from break. Place your orders TODAY so you don’t have to think about it. Just go to the CHOICELUNCH page.
Our lifesaver this week is:
Our Bake Sale Coordinator, Rumi Bhattacharyya - Thank you for coordinating all of the bakers, the volunteers, the decorations, the set-up, the clean-up, and much more. Thanks to everyone who contributed delicious treats to this Oak holiday tradition!
Happy Holidays from the Oak PTA - wishing all of your families a safe, happy, and fun winter break!
