FOR ALL OUR WILDCAT MOMS OUT THERE - THANK YOU!
SUMMER CREDIT RECOVERY IS ON AT ORHS!
In order to stay on track for graduation and fill in learning gaps, students will need to complete summer credit recovery for courses that they have not passed this year (fall and spring semesters). Students have four years plus a summer to graduate high school so it is important that they earn their credits each year to stay on track. We are excited to offer an expanded summer school this year to accommodate every student who may need to recover credit(s). While some courses are available with a teacher/classroom format, the majority of our credit recovery offerings will be online courses with in-person teacher support. Daily attendance is required for summer school. Students who are attending summer school will keep their devices for the summer school term.
Summer Credit Recovery will be offered at NO COST this year, and we are excited to be able to offer transportation for our summer recovery students. (If your child needs bus transportation for summer school, they must be signed up for summer school by May 17.) We will also provide lunch free of charge.
Dates: Monday, June 6 through Friday, July 1
Times: 7:45 to 10:45 (AM Session)
11:15 to 2:00 (PM Session)
Students must attend summer school in person. There is no virtual option for summer credit recovery. Summer school is self-paced, so they may finish before the final day. We will offer online credit recovery for the majority of our courses, but we have a face to face option for Geometry as well as Algebra 2. Students may sign up for two courses for summer recovery, but may seek admin approval to take a third course if necessary.
Students who are attending summer school will keep their laptops at the end of the school year. They will turn in their devices when they complete their summer school course(s).
Students must have earned a 50% or better in a course to be eligible for summer credit recovery. If a student has not earned a 50%, they must repeat the entire course in summer or the following school year.
If you have questions about your child’s eligibility for summer school, please reach out to his/her teachers, school counselors, or grade level administrators.
Students may use the link below or parents may sign their child up for ORHS Summer School 2021. The deadline to sign up for summer school is May 26th, however, if your child needs bus transportation for summer school, they must be signed up for summer school by May 17.

JAZZCATS AND CONCERT BAND VARIETY SHOW - TUESDAY MAY 10TH
Come enjoy the FREE Oak Ridge High School Band Variety Show Concert on Tuesday, May 10th, at 7PM in the ORPAC. Percussion Ensemble, JazzKats, and the Concert Band have prepared so many different genres of music – a true old-school variety show – something for everyone. Percussionists will perform on a plethora of instruments – traditional, tribal and make-shift, followed by a mix of classic and contemporary tunes by the JazzKats. The Concert Band has rarely had as diverse a program – from the symphonic Skydance , by Robert Sheldon, to a piece mimicking “the sounds of a jungle” you might have heard in an old black and white movie - Voodoo, by Daniel Bukvich. Always a march with Stars and Stripes Forever, by John Phillip Sousa, and the group has a final tune which will need everyone in the audience to help pull off – to save Oak Ridge! This is an amazing group of students who have had an incredible year with Band Camp, Football Games, Marching Competitions, and a couple of well-performed Concerts MAKING them seasoned performers. Please come support them for their final concert of the year; you will go home feeling entertained! All for the bargain price of FREE!
As always – an Instrument Drive is ongoing in Oak Ridge Schools. Attics, basements, closets – wherever those unused instruments are stored – wind, string, percussion – all are needed!

DON'T MISS VITAL BENEFITS AVAILABLE TO YOUR FAMILY!
Hello ORHS Families –
As school activities are finally returning to what feels like a “normal” year, we are trying to make sure that all families are receiving the full benefits available to them.
These benefits are funded through the School Nutrition Program and include:
- Funds for Title I programs and e-Rate (which support our technology funding).
- Assistance for qualifying parents for low internet rates for their child’s internet access at home.
- P-EBT cards issued by the federal government to the qualifying applications to identify students for these supplemental meal benefits. Qualified students can receive $7.00 or more per day per qualifying day.
- Students who qualify for free and reduced lunch are eligible for fee waivers for national tests such as ACT and SAT as well as reduced or waived fees when applying for colleges.
In order to identify families that are eligible for these benefits, the Free and Reduced Lunch Application must be completed and returned. Due to the availability of “free lunches” this year and last, the submission of the Free and Reduced Lunch Application forms has been minimal in comparison to years past. We ask that all families, if you have not done so already, complete the attached application and return before Wednesday, April 27.
The form can be picked up in any of the Oak Ridge Schools’ offices. One form will be sufficient for all your family but please be sure to list all of your students’ names on the form.
The form may be returned the following ways:
* Return to the school office
* Return to the Office of Pupil Services
* Emailed to lhenderson@ortn.edu
If you have questions, feel free to contact our office for assistance.
Thank you and we look forward to continuing to serve you and your family.

SENIOR PARENTS - WORK ETHIC DISTINCTION CERTIFICATES
What is the certificate for?
The Oak Ridge Schools Board of Education has approved the attainment of a Work Ethic Distinction, a distinction that has been available for seniors since 2020. What it entails is students providing a certificate to potential employers that they have been demonstrating desirable work skills.
How do I earn this certificate?
Students are to attain 20 points from the list shown below the image of the certificate here. When they provide evidence of success on these measures, they will be awarded a Work Ethic Distinction Certificate that will serve as part of the student’s job application portfolio.
Logos of employers who have already indicated they are willing to grant preference in interviewing a student who presents a Work Ethic Distinction Certificate are included on the face of the certificate. The list of employers who want to join this effort is growing. An ongoing list of such partner employers will be kept at our local chambers of commerce.
Please have students download the application here and complete the applications for this distinction and return them to Dr. Holly Cross, Supervisor of Career Readiness—ORHS CS244 before April 1, 2022 for recognition at graduation.
