There will always be rocks in the road ahead of us. They will be stumbling blocks or stepping stones; it all depends on how you use them. ~Frederick Nietzsche
Studies have shown that even partial sleep deprivation has a significant effect on mood. Not only does sleep affect mood, but mood and mental states can also affect sleep. Anxiety increases agitation and arousal, which make it hard to sleep. Stress also affects sleep by making the body aroused, awake, and alert. For more information about the impact of sleep on both your physical and mental health, check out what Dr. Greg Wells has to say.

"Spread The Word" Campaign March 4, 2020
The word "retard" is still being used and although many people might say, "We don't mean it that way", it is offensive and disrespectful to people who have an Intellectual Disability. Youth, through Best Buddies and Special Olympics, initiated a "Spread the Word to End the Word" campaign several years ago. The campaign is intended to get schools, communities and organizations to rally and pledge their support to help create communities of inclusion and acceptance for all people. Language affects attitudes and attitudes affect actions. We would like to invite and support all local schools to join the campaign to pledge to stop saying the R-word!

Since it is the start of the school year it is once again time to replenish our Social Fund. This fund supports social events and also allows us to support our Ed. Services colleagues with cards, etc. for various occasions. You can give your cash or cheque, (payable to the Educ. Services Staff Social Fund), to Amanda MacDonald in the Ed. Services office. More information at the staff meeting on some activities and ideas from the social committee.
