The Panther Post
Our new school year is off to a fantastic start!
Principal's Message
Fall officially started on September 22, 2022, but it sure doesn't feel like Fall. The temperatures still haven't dropped and we definitely haven't seen the leaves turning colors. The night sky getting darker earlier each day is the only sign of fall. We have many things planned at Blackstock Jr. High School this October.
Thank you to all the families that joined us on Back to School Night. It was great to see so many families. We hope to see you all at all of our events this year. We have missed you.
Our Monthly Cafe Con Leche parent meetings will be held every first Thursday of the month. Please check your messages as well as our school website for these dates. These parent meetings are very informational.
Thank you to all the parents who nominated themselves to be part of our School Site Council. Please be on the lookout for the ballots and vote for your parent representatives.
Progress reports will be out this week on Friday, October 7th. If your child needs support our Catch Up Club is starting soon. If your child is struggling with homework or falling behind in classes, please sign them up for the Catch Up Club.
Sports are back at Blackstock. Our flag football team is off to a great start with a victory at their game and our cheer team cheering them on.
Thank you for your continued support. Let's remain positive and continue to work together to make this year a great experience for your child.
Warmly,
Ms. Perez
PICTURE DAY is THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13 for anyone who missed orientation

The Basics of CalKIDS
CalKIDS is a state program that gives children in California a jump start on saving for college. Newborns and eligible low-income public school students are automatically enrolled and given a CalKIDS college savings account with an initial deposit. Eligible participants are identified by data received from the California Department of Public Health and the California Department of Education. There is no need to apply and no requirement that families make any kind of financial commitment.

Full STEAM Ahead!
The Channel Islands Chapter of The Links, Incorporated serves Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
Our chapter is hosting the annual “Youth Summit” for students in grades (6 – 8). This signature event will be virtual, featuring a guest speaker, and will focus on providing students with informational workshops regarding Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). The theme is “Amplifying Young Voices Through STEAM.” The free event will be held via Zoom on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. Please see the registration Link below:
The event will introduce and expose young people to some of the many career opportunities in STEAM fields. In addition, two parent workshops will be offered in English and Spanish on “How to Prepare for High School and College” and “Mental Health Resources in the Community.” Our workshop presenters are leaders and professionals from business, industry, higher education, and the government. We request your support to assist us in making this a meaningful and impactful event.
