MASSABESIC HIGH SCHOOL
2023-2024

September 11, 2023
RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
Notes from the Principal...
We survived a difficult week. On behalf of the staff I cannot thank you enough for your support and kind words this week, and also for the positive attitude from students amid a challenging environment this past week. We endured some uncomfortable temperatures, but we managed to make it through. Some of our classes planned for a Friday of fun as a way to stay cool (pictures below). We wish to extend a special thank you to our parent groups and district administration for providing us with a wonderfully cool surprise on Friday - our entire student population and staff were provided with an Italian Ice treat. A delicious way to cool off! The forecast looks to be more favorable next week, but we are also keeping an eye on possible severe weather forming to our South that could impact our region by the end of our week.
Tuesday, September 12th - NJROTC Family Information Night, 7:00 - 8:30 pm in MHS Auditorium:
This evening event is open to all who are interested in the NJROTC program - parents/families of current and potential cadets alike. Students who were active last year and might be this year as well are encouraged to attend. Chief Lipp and Captain Howell will review the program through pictures to share the story, and will also explain how NJROTC courses fit in with the MHS program of studies overall and contribute to success after high school whether in college, in vocational training, as a first responder, or in military service.
When: 7 PM (planned for as late as 8:30 pm)
Where: MHS Auditorium
What: Slideshow and verbal presentation by Chief Lipp and Captain Howell
Who: All interested parents/families
Our Student & Family Handbook is linked below in this newsletter. It is important that all students and families review the Student Code of Conduct, Attendance, and Dress Code. School is a place where students are encouraged to be themselves, but it is also a public place governed by the RSU 57 School Board that has specific rules that require students to respect those around them and to respect themselves. The Dress Code is a set of rules that is just as important as the Student Code of Conduct to ensure that the school environment maintains a focus on student growth and achievement. As uncomfortable as it may be to be approached by administration and staff to have a conversation with your choices in clothing that violate the Dress Code, we will be having these conversations if and when necessary. We understand that students are going to try to push boundaries and we try to be understanding and flexible over the first few days, however, these rules and policies will be upheld.
Safety Drills - We will begin conducting building safety drills this week and into next week. These will start as announced drills and move forward into unannounced drills when we feel our students and staff are well-versed in the protocols.

Parking Passes:
Students choosing to drive to campus and utilize campus parking are required to obtain a parking pass from the main office. You will need to provide evidence of proper vehicle registration, proper vehicle insurance, and a description of the vehicle before receiving your pass. Deputy Corey will be monitoring the student parking in the coming week to ensure students have been granted permission (with a parking pass) to utilize the student parking lot.
Student Arrival & Dismissal
1) Students may arrive at school at 7:10 AM - Students are dismissed at 1:49pm
2) Parent drop off and pickup has gone well thus far - we thank you for your patience during these busy times and we especially appreciate your willingness to follow the directions of staff helping to increase the flow of traffic arriving to, and departing from, the MHS campus.
