Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Mr Goddard has nominated Jessica, Kai, Kaleb and Ruby (7ST) a shout out for being really brave and leading assembly. They did an awesome job sharing how each of us can make a difference to the environment.

Subject Highlights:
Maths:
Mr Lee has nominated Year 9 students Ognjen, Faith, Patrick and Kayden for solving problems involving simple interest rates this week.
Miss Kaur has nominated 10A1 for their brilliant scores on their first maths mock exam! We had 10 students 3 marks or less away from the next grade up absolutely fantastic! You work incredibly hard, and it is showing, good luck for the remaining papers!
Miss Harrison has nominated Year 8 students Jessica R and Natalia J for their excellent contributions in their maths revision sessions this week. They have demonstrated strong subject knowledge and have pushed themselves to answers challenging questions.
Ms Adamska has nominated her Year 10 students for their outstanding contribution in the lessons on Data representation especially Histograms. Ms Adamska was impressed with your hard work on such a difficult topic as estimating the median from histograms. You are all amazing!
Music:
Miss Patrick has nominated the following this week:
Year 7 - Students have been working to record in the hook to "Kids" this week by MGMT, using a new (to students) DAW - Bandlab. Miss Patrick has been impressed with how students have applied their knowledge of other DAW's to work out how to use this program. A special mention goes to George in 7SW for successfully recording and editing the hook by the end of the lesson - well done!
Year 8 - Students have performed their own group versions of "3 Little Birds" by Bob Marley. Miss Patrick would like to celebrate 8TU for their brilliant performance skills this week and for immersing themselves in the project! This led to a amazing whole class performance. A special mention goes to Ashton, Corey, David, Cameron, Jefe and Aaron for being the first group to independently perform the skank rhythm and backbeat together whilst singing - excellent work!
Year 9: Students have begun rehearsals for their rock band projects this week. It has been lovely to watch students work on a song that they have chosen themselves and take responsibility for learning the individual parts. This week Miss Patrick has been particularly impressed with 9ST, as they have really been embracing the spirt of the challenge! A special mention goes to William for his brilliant vocal work and to Jennifer for her piano work - keep up the fantastic work!
Humanities:
Mr Hallas would like to nominate Reva park and Nicole Kulakowska in 9CO for an outstanding piece of work in geography. Both students produced a piece of work that showcased excellent locational detail and a very good understanding of pollution related issues.
Miss Buffini has nominated 8TE and 8CA who worked well together to complete their end of year assessment in RE.
Mr Foreman has nominated Eleanor (7TA) for an excellent result in her knowledge test on the Tudors and Gabriel B, Kellan M (7TA) for very good test results. Also nominated are Mia and Weronika (7ST) for excellent spelling test results on the Tudors.
Mrs Brown is really proud of how Year 10 Sociology students who worked through their sample exam paper this week, in preparation for their mock on the 23rd June. Keep it going and don't forget to revise!
Mr Strumpher has nominated Roberta, Nicole, Olivier, Millie, Sebi, Kaiden, Albert, Keisha, Vlad and George (7SW) for working hard in every Geography lesson and producing great pieces of work.
Mr Shepherd would like to say well done to his Year 11 groups for great focus and resilience through the exam period. They have worked incredibly hard this academic year and hopefully all their hard work will have paid off.
Spanish:
Mrs Gonzalez Villamil-Lean has made the following nominations this week:
Max (7CA) for his super attitude to learning and critical thinking and Cameron D for his super efforts this week. Year 8 students Saketh, Lucian, Lucas, Bradley and Alan for always being so helpful and their super contributions. Year 10 students Iara, Olivia P, Ava G, Ollie J, Arina, Mary, Louisa and Greta for their super results in their mocks. Finally Year 9 students Nicole K, Courtney F, Reva, Ayren, Danil and Emily for their consistent hard work during lessons.

DT and Engineering:
Mr Crory has nominated Theo (7CO) who has been really innovative within Design Technology classes in his car project.
Computer Science:

Year 10 - Mrs Macleod would like to congratulate Year 10D/CS1 students for working hard and revision on Computer Science topics ready for their Mock Exam next week.
Year 9 - Mrs Macleod would like to congratulate her Year 9 students who been completing worksheets and putting effort into exploring the most common representation of colour as a mixture of red, green, and blue. The level of each of these colours in the mixture is represented using an 8-bit sequence, producing a total of 24 bits to represent the colour of any single pixel. Also, students have been looking at the size of a digital image, by multiplying resolution (number of pixels) with colour depth (number of bits used to represent the colour of individual pixels)
Year 8 - Mrs Macleod would like to congratulate her Year 8 students who have been using their skills and knowledge of using Inkscape to create vector graphics. Students started by simply looking at using shapes to create an image. Students spent time drawing and modifying shapes using shape tools.
Year 7 - Mrs Macleod would like to congratulate the following Year 7CA/CS1 students for their work and effort on Networks. This week’s lesson explored the functionality of key hardware components found in a network. The lesson covered network cables, hubs, servers and routers. Students then used their knowledge of each component to build a series of increasingly complicated network diagrams.
PE:
Mr Clamp has nominated Year 9 students Ivan and Aaron for demonstrating helpful and kind behaviour by helping a peer with their batting technique in Softball. Also nominated are Year 13 Sports Science students for working incredibly hard to deliver their Sports Coaching sessions.
Science:
Mr Godfrey would like to nominate Year 10 students Stanislaw, Maya and Weronika for their resilience and taking ownership of their learning and Year 11 students Adam S, Robert, Theo and Dylan who have applied for the STEM Potential programme run by Oundle School and Imperial College which, if successful they will start in Year 12.
Miss Coulson has nominated nominate Year 10 students Gretil and Bailey for their amazing revision efforts during their Year 10 mocks; they have made use of every second they have!
Also nominated is Maya A and Olivia P s for their exceptional effort in the “Maths in Chemistry” unit.
Miss Kritzinger has nominated Kaylum and Alisha (7CO) and Melissa and Marija (7TE) for a wonderful food testing practical.
Mr Tanangonan has nominated Year 10 student Omayer (10SW) for her efforts in Science. She has been staying behind after lessons and giving up her lunch to revise for her Science mocks.
Mr Anglim would like to congratulate 7CA for awesome work learning about the dangers of chemicals and showing great enthusiasm despite the heat.
Mr Ali has nominated his Year 10 Biology class for their excellent completion of the ‘Factors Affecting Photosynthesis” practical and their recent progress in lessons.
Sixth Form:
12A are working on university and apprenticeship searches this term. Mrs Brown is impressed with 12A's work on researching options post-16; they are looking at some exciting and ambitious courses and apprenticeships. A reminder that June and July is 'open day' season with lots of universities releasing new dates all the time, so please check out the UCAS or UniFrog sites for current information. Enjoy!
CCF:
A big well done to the CTS CCF Shooting team, Oliwia G, Amelia F, Mason J and Miller T. They placed 2nd in the Inter-Trust Competition.
English:
Miss Vye has nominated 9A1 for their excellent effort in and attitude towards their end-of-year tests. Lots of them have managed to include ambitious vocabulary in their writing assessments and Miss Vye is very much enjoying marking them!
Miss Lodge has nominated 9AZ for their fantastic attitude towards their English assessments this week. Miss Lodge has been been really impressed with the whole class and the effort they have put into their work. Also nominated are Year 8 students Archie, Erin and Dylan for some fantastic contributions and questions in our Protest topic this term in English.
A big 'well done' to 7A1 from Mrs Brown. The students worked excellently in their assessment last week and produced some exciting dystopian writing!
Mr Toye has nominated Year 10 student Rhys G for a studious and proactive, response to his revision for upcoming mocks.
Mrs Morris has nominated Year 10 students Maisie R and Bailey who have completed a fantastic first draft for their NEA in English. Also 9B1 have impressed Mrs Morris with their engagement with the novel Salt to the Sea.
