On January 4, 2017, a district PD day, Hays CISD 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELAR teachers will work with secondary ELAR expert, Jeff Anderson, for a full day of PD, focused on authentic grammar and mechanics (revising and editing) skill based instruction. During the PD, Anderson will facilitate how to weaving grammar and mechanics instruction into the context of writing in a meaningful, interactive, and fun way, as well as, provide dynamic methods to integrate and expanded the definition of editing in writing process classrooms- every day.
What are additional resources for supporting the implementation of skills discussed during the PD day?
Best practice for revising and editing focuses on the utilization of mentor sentences with authentic practice of those structures in personal reflection, reader response writing, essay writing, etc. Anderson’s professional books Mechanically Inclined, Everyday Editing, and Revision Decisions support best practice instructional decisions with grammar and mechanics skills as an integral part in the writing process.
