
Human Trafficking 101
RECOGNIZING & RESPONDING, AND THE ID/DD AT-RISK POPULATION, IN A COVID-19 WORLD
This webinar will help you to define and understand the categories, scope and general characteristics of Human Trafficking, and to learn how Human Trafficking affects individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing ways to identify and establish support for them, especially during this COVID-19 Pandemic.
Presented by Cathy Ruiz
Cathy Ruiz is a Parent Mentor with the Parent Mentors of Ohio, serving Paulding County with Western Buckeye Education Service Center since 2008.
Cathy has two sons, ages 25, and 19 years old, each with a disability. As a parent of two children with special needs, the knowledge and experience that Cathy has acquired through the years in the special education system allows her to understand first-hand the many challenges, concerns and obstacles faced daily by parents of exceptional children. Professionally Cathy has a working knowledge and understanding of the special education process at both district and state levels allowing her to better serve parents of children with special needs and the district staff who serve them.
In addition to the position of Parent Mentor, Cathy has served as Service Coordinator with the Paulding County Family & Children First Council (FCFC) since 2010, and most recently has accepted the position of Coordinator with her county FCFC as well.
Cathy has provided numerous trainings relating to special needs topics at district, regional, and state levels. She is also a certified trainer on Human Trafficking awareness with the Lima NWO Rescue & Restore Coalition for Victims of Human Trafficking/Crime Victim Services, Lima, Ohio, in which she is also a member.
Cathy has served on the OCECD Executive Committee since 2013, and on the OCECD Governing Board since 2009. She also serves on several councils at district, county, and regional levels, and has a great passion and desire in assisting parents of children with special needs, collaborating with school districts and the area agencies who serve them.
