February 1 - 6th and 7th Grade Programming Night & Title I Information Session
Mr. Golderer and Mr. Drago will be on hand to explain the course selection process for students heading into 7th and 8th grade in the 2024-25 school year.
While this meeting does not directly affect elementary school families, you are welcome to attend.
Students do not need to attend as this information will be shared with them at school (if you have childcare issues, of course children are welcome).
In addition, we will have a booth set up for Title I information regarding Log College’s English and Math Programs. Families from all grade levels may attend.
MLK Sock Roll Challenge
Log College continues participating in its annual Sock Roll Challenge, which relies on donations from the school community, such as new socks, crackers and granola bars to wrap and present to less fortunate people in the area. Check out the flyer for more details.
Art Class
The creativity is flowing in Mrs. Schenfelt's Art classes! 6th graders started out the semester learning about drawing using shapes and lines, how to separate out different values and render them with stippling (creating lights and darks using a sharpie marker and making small dots), and how to accurately match color using Prismacolor colored pencils. The results are spectacular!
WIDA Testing
Beginning on January 17, 2024, the Centennial School District will begin the annual WIDA ACCESS (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State) testing window for our English Learners (ELs). The WIDA ACCESS is a PDE mandated and federally reported assessment of English Language Proficiency (ELP). The families of our English learners should have received an email communication for our Coordinator of Teaching and Learning: English Language Development and Inclusive Practices, Althea Tomlinson.
Our school testing dates are:
The WIDA ACCESS assessment is an important tool that guides the individualized instruction of our English learners. If you have any questions about the assessment, you can reach out directly to your child’s English Language Development (ELD) teacher.
Here are some things you can do to help your child prepare for the WIDA ACCESS:
Be sure your child/children are receiving and adequate amount of sleep during the testing dates
Be sure your child/children eat breakfast each morning before testing
Be sure your child/children bring their school issued electronic device to school every day fully charged
Encourage your child do do their very best on the assessment
Winter Sports
***Wrestling Log vs. Klinger will be January 31 at 6:00 p.m. at Log***
Dear Log College Families,
Winter Sports season is quickly approaching here at Log College. The Winter sports season runs from November through February and features four sports open to our 7th and 8th-grade students. Log College will be offering Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, and Cheerleading. We are pleased to announce that, for the first time (if enough students try out), we will have Junior Varsity (JV) teams for both boys and girls basketball, providing more students with the opportunity to participate in winter sports. It's important to note that these are not exclusively 7th or 8th-grade teams but are composed of a mix of both grades.
If your child is planning to participate in any of these sports, he/she must have a physical. No student may play or practice until a physical has been received.
PIAA sports physical -
All students must have a completed PIAA physical (dated after June 1, 2023). The physical forms can be downloaded from the link - PIAA Physical Form - Updated 3/22/23 (or you can pick one up from Mr. Corey, our athletic director or any LCMS coaches).
If you have already played a sport in the Fall, you do not need to complete a new physical, but you must re-submit section 7 (Re-certification by parent/guardian) from the PIAA physical form. This page does not require seeing a doctor or medical provider.
If you did not submit a PIAA physical in the Fall, you must complete Sections 1 to 5 within the PIAA sports physical packet. This must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian. Section 6 must be completed by an authorized medical examiner (family doctor, urgent care, minute clinic). You can ignore pages 7-8.
If you cannot find an appointment time with your doctor, you may use another provider or visit a CVS Minute Clinic or visit an Urgent Care center. The Centennial School District has a partnership with Liberty Urgent Care:
If you use any of the following Liberty Urgent Care centers and mention Centennial SD, your physical will only cost $20. (Locations listed below)
