We're Off and Running!
First week is in the books!
Well, the first week is complete and we're off and running. Lots going on this first week and I hope it went well for all of you. If you are having any issues with Edmentum, Parentvue, or general technology issues, please let me know and I will help you navigate them.
All DLA students are expected to create a school schedule to help you maintain structure within your school day. Students are expected to spend between 4.5 and 5 hours per day engaged in course work.
3 Critical Components to a successful DLA experience: 1) a quiet, distraction free place to do your school work, NOT your bedroom; 2) A schedule you follow everyday; 3) A 10 minute sit down with your parent/guardian to review daily progress.
Red/Orange/Green - As you begin your Edmentum classes you will notice a humanlike figure to the left of all of your courses. It will show one of three colors: Green - 'On Pace', Orange - 'Slightly Off Pace'; and Red - 'Off Pace. We want you all to stay on pace with your coursework. Green is good, that's where we want to be; Orange isn't bad, it may mean some things have not yet made it into your gradebook, or you may be a bit behind; Red is no good... we don't want to be there. Red indicates that you are 'Off Pace' and that is not where we want you to be.
Self-Advocacy - DLA students, we need you to advocate for yourself during the course of the school year. Ultimately what that means is that if you need something, you have to ask for it. Communication is key! Please attend any synchronous sessions your teachers request of you. If they email you, please respond, they are trying to help you be successful. Help them help you by communicating with them.
Let's all get off to a great start and keep the ball rolling all year long! You got this!
Have a great weekend!
Mr. McDonough
