January 2023
From the MAAP President
Hello fellow MAAPster!! PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION is a wonderful theme for our 41st Annual MAAP Conference, just three months away. I am looking forward to seeing you all February 7th-9th in Mankato. The early bird registration is open, and don’t forget the discounts for sharing your excellent program practices in a breakout session.
MAAP’s success is, and will continue to be, built on you working every day, striving to meet the needs of our students. You, alternative educators throughout the state, willing to exchange ideas with fellow educators to meet those needs. Keep up the extraordinary work you are doing each and every day, and I look forward to seeing you in Mankato.
Staff Recognition
A staff recognition page for alternative educators that have retired or passed away this past school year will be created again this year for our conference. The recognition will be include a picture and a word cloud for the retirees and including a picture and summary of the obituary for the deceased educators. Please email Mark Jansen the person's name and a picture markja@mystma.org before Jan 31st.
MAAP STARS Events
Capitol For A Day FEBRUARY 21, 2024
Coming up after the MAAP State Conference is STARS Legislative Day. We’re hoping that schools/programs will join us at the State Capitol in St. Paul. Students will meet with Legislators to tell them about their educational experiences, share why they are attending an alternative school and how it’s benefitting them to have a choice. They also get to visit the beautiful State Capitol and see their government in action firsthand. We will give out more details about February 21st plans at the MAAP State Conference and will be on the MAAP website.
MAAP STARS Spring Events Conference APRIL 25 & 26, 2024
The biggest and THE BEST STARS has to offer for all MN Alternative Ed. Students and Staff is our Spring Events Conference in Mankato. There are 16 different events that students can choose from. We offer individual, team, competitive and non-competitive options. With the help of a MDE Funding Grant that MAAP received, we will be able to reduce the costs for schools/programs to participate. Consider the possibilities to feel: Success, Teamwork, Achievement, Recognition, and build Self-esteem (STARS) all at one conference!
For more information, you can attend the STARS breakout session Thursday at the MAAP Conference, check out the MAAP website, or you can contact Patti Haasch at maapstarschair@gmail.com
