What is Culture Fair?
We’re having a culture fair to celebrate the families and cultures that make up our school and community on Tuesday, February 7th at 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Willowbrook families are encouraged to make posters to share about their culture/country. Click here to find out more and sign up to send in a poster or host a booth. Whether you make a poster or not, all families are invited!
Doors will open at 5:00pm. As you arrive, each Willowbrook student will get a passport. Students will get their passports stamped each time they visit a booth and learn about a family’s culture or country. When you leave, students will turn in their passports and we will draw names for PRIZES the next few days at school. We have 55 games to give away as prizes!
In addition to the culture fair posters made by Willowbrook families, you’ll be able to see student artwork on display and a few local organizations will be here to share about ways you can be involved in the community. There will be food trucks so you can buy a snack or dinner while you’re here, too! At 6:00, there will be a second grade music performance. Family, art, music, food, and community in one evening! We are so excited about the culture fair and hope to see you there!

What we are learning:
Our monthly Core Essentials word for all classes is “Knowledge.”
This month, we are using knowledge to help us learn how to resolve conflicts. For K-1, this means learning different strategies for solving small problems, including ignoring, walking away and talking things out. We also discuss who are our safe adults that we can discuss big problems with.
In 2nd-4th grades, we are talking about using an “I-Message” to discuss conflicts with friends and/or siblings. This includes stating how we felt when something happened, and what we need to make it better. The Counseling Classroom has a Time Machine mat to helps us do this. Below are some 4th graders demonstrating how to use it.
