For those of you who would prefer to read the steps, here you go...
1. Hook up your device to your laptop using the charging cord. (The first time you will need to click "Trust" on your device.) It isn't uncommon for iTunes and Photos to automatically open when you plug in a device. In the windows that open, look around for a place to direct these app not to automatically open.
2. Open Quicktime Player, which can be found in your Application folder.
3. In the top menus, go to File > New Movie Recording.
4. In the newly opened window, beside the red record button, there is a tiny down arrow. Click and choose the device name. This should mirror your device.
