FES Monthly Update
June
Principal Message
FES Families,
Happy June! It is hard to believe that we are entering the final days of the 2022-2023 school year. It seems like just yesterday that I was writing my first newsletter to the Freeland community. I am so grateful for the relationships that have formed with families and with students, and I am so fortunate to be able to be the principal at FES.
Whenever the end of one school year comes, the start of the next school year isn't far behind. We start to plan, prepare, and better ourselves each summer. We have plans to roll out communication over the summer that will help families prepare for the 2023-2024 school year, including supply lists, videos to help our students transition to 5th and 6th grade, information about open house nights, and much more. Please continue to watch for newsletters and emails, check our website, and also follow Freeland Community School District on Facebook for continued updates.
Thank you for making my first semester at Freeland memorable and meaningful. I am looking forward to the continued opportunities for building meaningful relationships, and for continuing the work for bettering our educational opportunities for our Falcons!
Your Proud Principal,
Mrs. Kali McKenna

Here is some key information from our PTO:
- Thank you to our many volunteers! You will be getting a message about details for volunteering from PTO. Any parent is welcome to join and watch their children.
- Each student will need to bring an extra socks to school on June 5th to change into for the event.
- This event is weather dependent - due to safety it can't be held if there is inclement weather including high winds. We will be watching the weather closely, and will communicate any changes in a timely manner.
Dismissal Changes- Last Week of School
We received communication from our partners at Zion Lutheran Church that they will be resurfacing their parking lot next week starting on Monday, June 5, and should be completed by Thursday, June 8. This will cause some disruption to our normal dismissal procedures on these days. If you typically meet your child in the church parking lot after school, we strongly suggest that you begin having conversations now on where you will meet your child after school next week. We ask that everyone practice patience to ensure the safety of all of our students. Some suggestions for dismissal would be:
2nd-4th Grade Families: If you typically visit both the Elementary School and the Learning Center after school for pick up, having your child bus from the Elementary School to the Learning Center would provide less traffic congestion at the Elementary School on those days.
All Grades (especially those who use the church parking lot on a regular basis): We have communicated with the Tittabawassee Township Police Department, and plan to have their support for crossing students on Powley Drive to meet families at the new Walleye Festival parking lot on 3rd Street. They will be there to support crossing the street at the crosswalk at the yellow sign near the sidewalk on the west end of the school.
All Grades (especially those who use the church parking lot on a regular basis): Consider using the staff parking lot on the east end of the school.
All Grades: Continue to utilize the parking lot on the west end of the school.
Thank you so much for your understanding, support, and patience to ensure student safety.
Lunch- Last Two Days of School
2nd-4th Grade: June 8 will be a normal lunch schedule for 2nd-4th graders. On June 9, 2nd-4th graders will have the opportunity to order a sack lunch to take with them. The cost for the lunch will be the same as normal, and students will get this before going home. Please communicate with your classroom teacher if your child will be ordering lunch on this day.
