Dayton Consolidated Weekly Update
December 16, 2021
Hello Dayton Consolidated Families!
In typical Maine fashion, the snow left us just as quickly as it arrived. It will be back and with students outside getting fresh air each day, a reminder to please make sure your child has plenty of layers each day (hat, gloves, and jacket at minimum until the snow arrives again). It is a bit of a wind tunnel on the back playground.
I would like to reiterate what Superintendent Ray wrote in his December 10th update regarding the reduction of quarantining close contacts during the second half of the school year thanks to our vaccination clinics. If your child has been fully vaccinated, please complete the Google Form below and upload a photo to assist Nurse Jen with contact tracing. Fully-vaccinated individuals do not have to quarantine if identified as a close contact so long as they remain asymptomatic. Also, if your family plans to travel for the holidays, please be aware of travel guidance and testing requirements (linked here).
Our district has also been fortunate to receive some grant funding to assist those in need. If your child is in need of warm winter gear, please reach out to me, or School Counselor, Mrs. Balfour, and we will do our best to assist.
We have some fun events planned next week as we close out the 2021 school year with our students. Please take note of the calendar below as well as classroom newsletters for more information.
As this will likely be my last newsletter for this year, I want to take a moment to wish you all a joy-filled holiday. It continues to be my honor to serve the Dayton School Community and I look forward to continuing that service in 2022.
Wishing you all the best.
Happy Holidays!

POOLED TESTING HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
Looking ahead to Winter Break, the last pooled testing date before the Winter Break will be Friday, December 17th. During the week of December 20th, pooled testing will not be conducted or collected in any Maine schools. Although pooled testing will resume the following week we return (January 3rd), anyone participating who is unvaccinated and identified as a close contact from a school exposure would need to either:
quarantine; or,
be tested twice (on separate days) using an antigen test (BinaxNOW) so long as they remain asymptomatic and then resume the normal pooled testing schedule.

Spotlight on a DCS Staff Member: Mrs. Braley
1. Mrs. Braley, where are you originally from?
I'm originally from Westfield, Maine in Aroostook County. I went to Presque Isle High School.
2. What other jobs have you had besides working at Dayton Consolidated School?
I have worked at DCS since I began my career in education after graduating from UNE. In my earlier years, I spent many nights and weekends waitressing at various restaurants, including The Sidewalk Cafe and Riverside Restaurant in Presque Isle and, later, Run of the Mill in Saco. I even spent one potato harvest picking potatoes by hand!
3. How long have you worked at DCS?
This is my eighth year.
4. What do you enjoy doing during your time away from DCS?
When I'm not with my school family, I love spending time with my husband and two children, Theo and Vivian. We like walking at Goose Rocks Beach in Kennebunkport, eating ice cream wherever we can find it, and cooking together at home. I also love to write and have a blog that I work away at whenever I can find the time.
5. What are your responsibilities at DCS?
My role at DCS is Title I Teacher and Instructional Strategist. I provide math and reading interventions for students who need extra support. I also work closely with teachers and administrators to collaborate on curriculum, assessment, professional development, and instructional strategies.
This year, my responsibilities have shifted as I have moved back into the classroom to fill an opening as the teacher in our second grade class. I have 25 second graders and one awesome resident intern!
Thank you Mrs. Braley for your service to DCS!
