A note from your PTSA
Opportunity for students and parents to show their support for the boundary re-assignments!
SSL hours for the students!
Please come to the Board of Education at 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville (next to the Rockville campus of Montgomery College) this Wednesday, November 13th at 6pm. Wear your Screaming Eagle green and gold and be in the audience to show your support for our speakers.
That's it! Come sit in the audience and show the BOE that we are Seneca Proud.
Why is this important to the Seneca Valley community? The boundary re-assignments is what decides the neighborhoods of kids that will join you in the Valley! SVHS PTSA is a strong advocate for balancing diversity as much as possible. The BOE will be happy to see all the green and gold! Thank you for coming out. This is years in the making and we appreciate the help.
Notes from Counseling Services
Guidance counselors worked with grade 9th grade English classes on their 4-year Course Plan in Naviance. Students will continue this week completing their course selections through high school with a completion date of November 7th. Naviance is the prefect tool when used with the Career Interest Profiler and Strengths Explorer.
Seniors, your next college application deadline is Friday, November 15 and December 1. Make sure you have your recommendation and test scores requested to meet these deadlines. Work with your counselor and Mrs. Maloney to be on time with getting your information to the colleges.
The Scholarship files in the Career Center have been completely updated and stocked with the latest scholarships available for students. Come take a look and see what might fit your needs academically or by interest. Remember, scholarship searching and essay writing is like a part-time job; you have to put time in in order to get paid.
Dual enrollment for Spring Semester is now open to juniors and seniors. Dee Mr. Yarmus if you have questions.
Applications for ACES will close December 13th for rising juniors. See Mr. Daryn Moore in the Career Center if you have questions about the application or ACES.

Important Technology Updates
YouTube and Additional Instructional Services Consent Form
In alignment with federal requirements, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA), MCPS requires affirmative parent/guardian consent for high school students to access YouTube and other Google Additional Services through their MCPS-provisioned G Suite account. Most of our students submitted the form authorizing consent last year, but we need to ensure that all of our 9th graders and students new to MCPS also have access to MCPS-approved digital learning tools.
Therefore, all 9th grade students will receive a hard copy of the form Parent/Guardian Consent for Use of Additional Services for High School Students in their English/ESOL classes. This form is also available in additional languages here. Please complete this form and return it to your student’s English teacher at your earliest convenience. Consent remains valid for the entire time the student is enrolled in an MCPS high school and may be rescinded at any time. If you do not return the form, we will assume your child is NOT permitted to use YouTube and the Additional Services.
To learn more about ways MCPS is committed to responsible use of technology, including handling personally identifiable information and sensitive data, please visit the MCPS website Data Privacy and Security.
Sprint 1Million Project – Free Internet & Technology
MCPS is partnering with the Sprint 1Million Project Foundation to improve access to technology for students who do not have access to the internet at home and/or limited or no access to a computer at home. Sprint will provide students who meet eligibility requirements with:
- a free Chromebook,
- a device with hotspot capabilities,
- 10GB per month of free high-speed wireless data, and
- wireless service for up to 4 years (while in high school).
All 9th grade and ESOL students will complete the eligibility survey in their English/ESOL classes in the next few weeks. 10th-12th grade students may access the eligibility survey in their English class Google Classrooms. Additionally, the eligibility survey is linked here for your convenience.
Should you have any questions about this program, please contact Nicole Little-Cook, our school library media specialist.
