Our Mission:
Principal's Message
Students will notice a few changes at MHS over the next couple of weeks.
As students go to lunch this week, they will see our table configuration in the Commons will return to our large circular tables with benches surrounded by the taller cafe tables along the walls. Our lounge area outside of the office will also return to the cafe tables, replacing the rows of student desks. The old cafeteria will no longer be a place to eat. Beginning March 28th, MHS will return to a two lunch schedule instead of the three lunches we’ve had all year. A new bell schedule will be shared later this week as there will be slight changes to the schedule on Mondays and Fridays and some students will also see a change when they have lunch.
One thing that continues is students working on their class selections for next year. On Monday morning, students will be able to put in their class requests for next year. If you haven't done so, please review your student's registration plan sheet and sign off on the course selections for next year. MHS admin and counseling staff build several of our classes based on the interest of students so it is important we know which classes they are interested in taking in the 2022-2023 school year.
As we look ahead to what remains this year, we will have senior presentations in April along with state testing for our 10th graders and some 11th and 12th graders. These events will involve some changes to our bell schedule so be watching for those on our website and in future newsletters.
I hope you find the information in this week's newsletter helpful in both learning more about our school and events and activities taking place. If there is particular information that you cannot find, please email me at dforbes@meridian.wednet.edu or call 360-398-8111.
Go Trojans!

Teacher Feature
Steven Lawrence - History Department
Mr. Lawrence has worked at Meridian High School for 29 years. His favorite thing about teaching at Meridian are the students, he says that the students here are pretty cool, chill, and nice. He enjoys working with them. Mr. Lawrence chose teaching as his career because it was his way of making a change, he wanted to give students a role model. He wanted to treat people in a way that they would pay forward. He really loves the subject he teaches and seeing other students realize how much they enjoy that same subject makes him feel joy. Especially if they didnt come in enjoying the subject. Mr. Lawrence also coaches the girls golf team, is the union president, which means he represents the teachers at the district office, and he used to do Mock Trial. His favorite things to do in his free time are golfing, reading, and going to concerts. His favorite concert he’s gone to is Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers, he got front row seats to that concert! Also Mr. Lawrence says that he wants to share that in the words of Emily Kuljis, “He’s a G.” Mr. Lawrence’s highlight from working at Meridian is that a while ago he won teacher of the year and he got pictured by the Bellingham Herald. His picture in the Bellingham Herald is with a former Meridian High School graduate, Steven Auld. He was much larger than Mr. Lawrence and the picture in the Bellingham Herald is of Steven Auld bear hugging Mr. Lawrence. He really treasures that memory.
Students say their favorite thing about Mr. Lawrence is that, “he knows how to have fun and respect the difference of kids nowadays compared to his time,” “he always makes an effort to include everyone,” and “he’s able to relate to every generation without purposefully trying to fit in.”
Teacher Feature is provided by Bhavnoor Dhatt. Bhavnoor is a leadership student that will be providing the Teacher Feature as part of her personal project for Leadership class.
NATIONAL PUPPY DAY
Prepare yourselves for an overdose of cuteness, because March 23 is National Puppy Day! Established in 2006, National Puppy Day is a day for all dog enthusiasts to celebrate unconditional love and fawn over the undeniably cute pups that bring so much happiness into this world. While we’re all softies when it comes to our four-legged friends, today is also designed to raise awareness about puppy mills and help prospective pet owners consider adoption.
Request Transcripts Through Parchment
Meridian High School has partnered with parchment.com to fulfill transcript requests for current students and MHS alumni. Transcripts are securely sent electronically to colleges and universities across the nation, resulting in a reduction of lost documents at the financial aid offices. The service is free of charge to current students. Alumni pay a small fee. Please make sure that your intended college accepts electronic transcripts.
Please find the “Order transcripts through Parchment” link under Families & Students/Resources on the MHS website. Current students may call Mrs. Brinkman or Mrs. Waterman to receive their Parchment access code at the MHS office 360-398-8111.
Attendance Information
Being present in class is vital to be successful in school. We want to encourage all of our students to be at school every day! If you are missing school, you are missing out on learning!
